"In America, it is nearly impossible to have a rational discussion, much less win an argument when it comes to guns, gays or God — especially when the three intersect as they did early Sunday morning at a club in Orlando, Fla. That’s when Omar Mateen, an American of Afghan descent who happens to be a Muslim by birth if not by practice, entered a gay nightclub called Pulse with an AR-15 assault rifle and murder on his mind.

During a pause in the killing, Mateen called 911 and declared his allegiance to the Islamic State. The bloodbath was inspired by the brutality of IS, but not directed by that terrorist cult. Mateen needed a larger rationale than homophobia to justify initiating the deadliest mass shooting in American history, otherwise he’d be just another disturbed gunman in a country that manages to produce lone wolf killers daily with conveyor belt efficiency...

After press reports of Mateen’s ad hoc “allegiance” to IS began circulating in the media, the terrorist cult gladly claimed him as one of its own since it is not about to begin discriminating against anyone willing to kill in its name. Thanks to Mateen, IS hauled in a lot of souls without raising an operational finger. All they had to do was accept Mateen’s sacrifice as their own and let the headlines in the western press do the rest....

Like any American, he reached for a Second Amendment Solution to assuage the voices of hatred throbbing in his head. He bought the assault rifle and another gun the U.S. Constitution said he was entitled to by virtue of birth and citizenship, but he couldn’t buy all the body armor he wanted, ironically enough. It turns out that one does not have a constitutional right to unlimited body armor, because unlike AR-15s, the Founding Fathers were silent on that.

You can have plenty of rational discussion about guns in America, thanks to the 1st Amendment (also, about gays and God). You just can't escalate such discussion into leftist policy, thanks to the Second Amendment. Nor can you intimidate gun owners by quartering armed troops in their homes, thanks to the 3rd Amendment. Nor can you arbitrarily search a citizen's home for guns, thanks to the 4th Amendment.

Your narrative fails, taker.

Weapons that belong on a battlefield should be banned, they were before and should be again.

the founding fathers were extremely clear on what they intended, as can be easily recognized by the NUMEROUS commentaries throughout all the colonies before the constitution and bill of rights was ratified. any attempt to claim vague and unclear issues is ludicrous.

So you say.

Considering the failure of the federal government to effect any sort of functioning security as it relates to threats it is afraid to even name, what makes you think any new gun law would make any difference ? None have to date.
