The nation’s hard-fought presidential contests have brought more than 850,000 new voters onto California’s registration rolls, dwarfing numbers seen in 2008 and 2012, according to figures from the state’s 58 counties.

With the voter registration deadline for the June 7 primary coming up, those numbers are guaranteed to increase.

“We’re looking at a larger voter growth than ever seen before a primary,” said Paul Mitchell, vice president of Political Data Inc., which compiled the registration data. “It’s double the preprimary growth in 2012.”

Not surprisingly, the newly registered voters are overwhelmingly young people, with 37 percent under 25 and 64 percent 35 or younger. Many of the older voters are probably new citizens or people who have moved to California from other states.

Just under 29 percent of those new voters are Latino, Mitchell said, more than double the percentage in 2012.

Along with those new voters, almost 600,000 other Californians have re-registered since Jan. 1, usually because they changed their name, address or party. Those 1.45 million new or updated registrations as of May 1 could grow to 2 million by the registration deadline.

The registration figures are bad news for the state’s Republicans, who already have seen their numbers falling in California. Nearly half the new voters, 48.5 percent, registered as Democrats, compared with the 16.7 percent who registered as Republicans and the 34.8 percent who either declined to state a party preference or registered with a minor party.

The percentage of new Republicans is far below the party’s 27.5 percent statewide registration, which could hurt GOP candidates both in the fall and in the future.

Teflon Don gets a belly laugh, alludes to mob ties

When Donald Trump stepped on stage Thursday night, the event had all the makings of a normal Trump rally, but the podium read "New Jersey" instead of "Trump."

That's because the presumptive Republican nominee was raising money here for his former rival-turned-supporter Chris Christie.

Trump pointed to Christie and asked, "You're not eating Oreos anymore, are you?", as the crowd awkwardly laughed.

"There's nothing like New Jersey. Wiseguys, so many wiseguys," Trump said.

New polls out of Arizona and Georgia are heightening GOP anxiety about the prospect that the two states, long reliably red at the presidential level, could bolt to Hillary Clinton in November.

It’s the downside of Donald Trump’s potential to rewire the electoral map. Just as the presumptive Republican nominee shows signs he could pick off some longstanding Democratic Rust Belt states, his hardline approach to immigration and controversial remarks about women and minorities run the risk of accelerating trends in Arizona and Georgia that could turn them blue for the first time in a generation—or at a minimum, make them competitive enough that Republicans are forced to play defense.

Teflon Don's taxation two-step

Standing in the lobby of Trump Tower in midtown Manhattan in September 2015, Trump rolled out his tax reform plan -- which some analysts immediately saw as a boon for the wealthy.

He proposed significant cuts across the board, PolitiFact National found, but the wealthiest would get the most in tax cuts. For the highest income earners, the top income tax rate would drop from 39.6 percent to 25 percent.

Trump said he might raise, not lower, taxes on the wealthy.

Then he indicated the wealthy would get tax cuts, but the cuts might be less than what is in his plan.

And then Politico reported that Trump’s campaign had enlisted conservative economists to revise his plan, and that they were advising a top tax rate of 28 percent -- higher than the 25 percent in Trump’s proposal.

All of which has caused some confusion as to what Trump would do with taxes.

Teflon Don woos women

90

Days after The New York Times published a story chronicling instances in which Donald Trump crossed the line with women, a former Miss Universe is sharing how the Republican shamed her decades ago, even going as far as to call her “Miss Piggy”.

In an interview with Jim Moret that will air Thursday, Alicia Machado said that after winning the Miss Universe contest in 1996 as a 19-year-old Miss Venezuela, the billionaire ordered her to lose weight.

Trump publicly called Machado an “eating machine” in an interview with Howard Stern and invited nearly 100 media outlets to watch her exercise in a gym.

“She weighed 118 pounds or 117 pounds. So this is somebody that likes to eat,” Trump said.

But he went even further in his criticism of her diet in private.

“He called me Miss Piggy. I was very depressed in that moment.”

Machado said Trump not only made her feel “fat,” but he also ridiculed her English-speaking ability, calling her “Miss Housekeeping.”

Machado will become an American citizen in time to vote for the November election.

As for whether she would cast her ballot for Trump, she burst into laughter.

Trump bullied her “all the time,” she said. And the billionaire didn’t deny it, “To that, I will plead guilty.”

Teflon Don says Bill Clinton is a rapist

Allegations raised against Donald Trump in a recent New York Times article are nothing compared to the Clintons’ history, the Republican said in an interview with Fox News.

“For example, I looked at The New York Times. Are they going to interview Juanita Broaddrick? Are they going to interview Paula Jones? Are they going to interview Kathleen Willey?” Hannity asked Trump. “In one case, it’s about exposure. In another case, it’s about groping and fondling and touching against a woman’s will.”

Trump replied, “And rape.”

“And rape,” Hannity repeated.

“And big settlements, massive settlements,” Trump added. “And lots of other things. And impeachment for lying.”

“Smearing,” Hannity said. Trump then mentioned Bill Clinton being disbarred for five years in Arkansas. “You know, he lost his law license, OK? He couldn’t practice law. And you don’t read about this on Clinton,” he said.

GOP lawmakers are turning cartwheels

They've physically dodged reporters, they've twisted their words beyond the legal definitions of said words, and they've flip-flopped.

Some congressional Republicans have so creatively avoided taking a firm stand on whether they'll support, endorse or campaign with Trump that one now even has an evasive maneuver named after her.

Read their laughable statements here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ortured-republican-responses-to-donald-trump/

Point to ponder:

The losers in the 2016 presidential election will likely be considered too old to run again in 2020. :)

Teflon Don paid zero income tax

The last time information from Donald Trump’s income-tax returns was made public, the bottom line was striking: He had paid the federal government $0 in income taxes.

The disclosure, in a report by New Jersey gambling regulators, revealed that the wealthy Manhattan investor had for at least two years taken advantage of a tax-code provision popular with developers that allowed him to report negative income.

Today, as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Trump regularly denounces corporate executives for using loopholes and “false deductions to “get away with murder” when it comes to avoiding taxes.

“They make a fortune. They pay no tax,” Trump said last year on CBS. “It’s ridiculous, okay?”

Trump, who said last week on ABC that his tax rate is “none of your business,” would be the first major party nominee in 40 years to not release his returns.

Fox News poll shows little Latino love for Teflon Don:

With less than six months to go before the presidential elections, Latinos overwhelmingly support Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump, according to a Fox News poll released on Friday.

The poll found that 62 percent of registered Latino voters would head to the ballot box for Clinton in November, while only 23 percent would support Trump on Election Day.

Will ‘Weiner’ documentary hurt Huma?

It may come as no surprise that the most interesting character in the documentary “Weiner” is not its titular character, former Congressman Anthony Weiner (though he continues to titillate), but rather his wife, Huma Abedin.

Just before the film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where it went on to win the Grand Jury Prize in the documentary category, a New York Times review fixated on Abedin, describing her as “steely,” “hurt,” “hostile” and “flat.”

It is not a far stretch to imagine that Abedin, who has been Clinton’s “shadow,” “body woman,” “right hand,” “traveling chief of staff” and “second daughter” since 1996, when she first interned in the first lady’s office, could become someone very significant in a potential Hillary Clinton administration.

“Weiner” could change that.

WHERE IS THE $6 MILLION TEFLON DON PROMISED VETS?

One night in January, Donald Trump skipped a GOP debate, and instead held his own televised fundraiser for veterans.

At the end of the night, Trump proclaimed it a huge success: “We just cracked $6 million, right? Six million.”

Now, Trump’s campaign says that number is incorrect.

Campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said the fundraiser actually netted about $4.5 million, or 75 percent of the total that Trump announced.

In recent weeks, Trump and his campaign repeatedly declined to give new details about how much they have given away.

“Why should I give you records?” Trump said in an interview this month. “I don’t have to give you records.”

Trump provided no official way for charities to apply for the money. Groups around the country still tried, sending letters, and hitting up local veterans-for-Trump leaders.

“We haven’t heard anything,” said Judy Schaffer of Heroes to Heroes.

In the last few days, The Post has interviewed 22 veterans’ charities. None of them have reported receiving personal donations from Trump.

Who did Trump give to, and in what amounts?

“He’s not going to share that information,” Lewandowski said.

Teflon Don says China will be our friend if you elect him

Donald Trump wanted to talk trade, telling an audience here that the country is "getting killed" and losing jobs. He ticked off the names of companies that have moved or planned to move their business overseas — and if they do that while he's president, he said, they're going to pay a 35 percent import tax.

"And these dummies say, 'Oh well, that’s a trade war.' Trade war? We’re losing $500 billion in trade with China. Who the hell cares if there’s a trade war?" Trump said.

"Five-hundred billion, and you're talking about a trade war," Trump said. China is "behaving very, very badly" by devaluing its currency, he said, adding that once he is president, China will "behave and China will be our friend."
