Where are the police? Given the politics in Germany you have to wonder if they've been told to stand down by their higher ups, sort of out the Baltimore playbook.

Where are the moderate Muslims in Germany? If I were running things I would insist that every Muslim immigrant be associated with a local mosque, at least for the purposes of assimilation into the native German culture. Tell them Cologne isn't Damascus and that women alone in public aren't fair game and etc.

Where are the German men? Or where were they? Maybe the citizen protection league will hand out a few ball bats.

Fortunately, the student union’s decision provoked a wave of protests, and my visit was able to go ahead.
