Harvey Weinstein is a committed left winger. He donates to left wing candidates. He was a HUGE supporter of B. Hussein Obama. And he is worth about $150 million. Yes. He is rich ladies and gentleman. The kind of rich that democrats say "don't pay their fair share in taxes". He claims to agree as he said these words:


"I'm happy to make an investment in America. I don't look at it as tax, evil! I say, OK, if I have to pay a little bit more, we'll get it back. ... But it's not like paying more, that you don't get it back. You get a better United States. ... I'm here to volunteer on the taxes."


But, here is he begging the state of Californistan to give him tax relief. Why is that?

He's talking about business rather than personal perspective. He's saying that no matter how much HE makes, he's willing to pay his way in taxes for the country. The studios are the ones that are pitching for tax breaks.

The same studios that made him rich ? If he wants to shoot in Cali to support Cali he can cut out the middleman and just bear the cost.

when he asks the state to give him the money it will ultimately get the logical is not false. If its a loaded question its only because Daddy Filmbucks made it so.

Business tax breaks? Wouldn't this classify as corporate welfare? Why does hollywood need tax breaks? Aren't they making billions? Come on, you can do better than that.

Nothing loaded about it. It is his statements that are incongruent. Are you saying that he wants corporate welfare but PERSONALLY wants to pay more in taxes? Come on Mutt, are you really that willfully naive?
 
I suppose decent people believe in their country and Republicans believe in monopolising the trough. What's new?

It would, but please remember the guy's working his business based on the available rules, so there is no hypocracy at all in this. He separates his own income taxes from the company's income taxes.

I like how the TV & Film industry is crying for California to give them big tax breaks, yet you do not hear of any actors/actresses stepping up to the plate and saying "I am making too much money, cut my salary in half". Instead the citizens of California are supposed to fund your useless existence.

He's not asking for tax breaks for himself, he's asking for PRODUCTION tax breaks to make it more affordable to shoot films in Cali.

Right now it's more cost effective for the big studios to shoot their pictures elsewhere.

Yes I get its cheaper to shoot most anywhere else. Why does he want Cali to surrender money it would get in revenues ? If he is good with paying taxes (for himself or his company) why try to stiff the state ? Makes no sense to love taxes but hate paying them. Really closer to blackmail than simple hypocracy.
 
The word is HYPOCRISY.

HYPOCRACY is not a word, and if it were, it would mean something like "a governmental system run by hypochondriacs."

He wants to shoot his films in California, but the studio bean counters demand he and his crew get the most bang for their buck, so he's forced to shoot elsewhere.

And let's not forget that even though the studio shooting the film gets some tax credits, that there are offsetting taxes paid by businesses working with the studio, from companies renting equipment to the production company and local taxes paid by cast and crew while on location.
