Slavery was a barbaric institution that rationalized the brutal beating and subjugation of humans. Even the supposed benevolent masters were part of a filthy trade. I wonder if you would care to denounce the African and Arab slave sellers as well? Where do you imagine the slave traders got all their slaves from anyway? All they had to do was sail to a West African port and the slaves were already there ready to be sold. Quite often they would be members of a conquered tribe who if they weren't sold would no doubt be killed or enslaved anyway.

True. I was reading something about the Barbary pirates recently... and something about Thomas Jefferson and a Turkish official, who basically said that they could do whatever they wanted to non-Muslims, including enslaving them.

There was one Irish coastal town that was raided, and basically everyone there was captured and sold into slavery.
