A&E suspended Phil Robertson

I have never watched the show.

its a circus side show.

I really wish they would start a show about REAL people.

what many of the viewing smucks don't realize is these shows are scripted.

The main issue isn't his religious beliefs; the show knew he was a conservative Christian when they signed him. Duck guy was happy to make millions from this show so I have no sympathy for him whatsoever. So if you say that homosexuality is a sin that denigrates the queers? Really? Are the queers really that sensitive these days?

Nothing he said materially harmed one queer.

Jesus didn't address homosexuality in the NT. I'm not saying he supported it, or that he didn't abide by Jewish teachings on the matter. But I don't see where he condemned homosexuals like he did the Pharisees, adulterers, hypocrites etc. Jesus taught love and forgiveness, not hate and judgment. That's more than I can say for the so-called Christians on this thread (I'm not including you in this, LR) who show precious little understanding of Jesus' teachings in their comments about gays:

How do you square these comments and others like them with what Jesus taught? They're polar opposites. People can condemn homosexuality on religious grounds without having to sink to this level of hatred. I call it faux Christianity, nit-picking the details while ignoring the overall message.

To the bolded above, I answer that I cannot. No one can. It is just as wrong as any other sin including homosexuality. This is why I rarely get involved in these sorts of threads though I have strong, religious beliefs. But I would also argue that Phil Robertson didn't "sink to" anywhere near that level with his comments. I think A&E has every right to "suspend" him. People have every right to condemn him. And I to defend him...or at least his position, which is not much different from mine. There are sins (I could make a list but it wouldn't be exhaustive), we are to note them and avoid them, ultimately, judgment for eternity is left up to God.

Sometime I will talk about nit-picking. Right now I will say it is paying attention to detail. God has always been a detail oriented God. (See Uzza and Nadab & Abihu since the OT was recorded for "our learning"). Nit-picking comes from the old time process of picking nits (louse eggs) out of the hair of one who has contracted head lice. If I got nits, I sure want someone to pick them. But I'm probably OK because the top of my head looks like Charlie Brown's.

This dunce like view would preclude nearly every show or book ever read. The Constitution does not protect you from being offended by someone else's FREE speech you twit.

I have never watched this show, nor do I have any desire to watch it. But let's put the stupidity of A&E and the PC crowd on display for everyone to see; this man got fired NOT for what he said in the TV show which is carefully edited, but for what he said OFF the air in an interview hit piece.

This family should just tell A&E's hypocrite executives to go pound sand. Other programs would be thrilled to pick up a program generating nearly a billion a year.

I'm amazed that there are that many people in the country who find such a show that interesting myself. ::shrugs::

Moral of the story; to the closed minded PC crowd, the bible is the most hate filled, biggoted, homophobic document known to man and should be banned from the earth.
 
This forum is a testimony to this emotional debate...31 pages and counting from yesterday's news to now. That has to be a JPP record.
 
I have not read every comment here yet, but this is truly an manufactured outrage. I don't think a single person on here has said that A&E did the right thing by suspending the loon.

Most have said they have the right, but should not have done it.

I find it funny to see how many who supported Clear Channel when they banned the Dixie Chicks are now upset at Clear Channel.

No, he did not say anything of the kind... the happy black people he spoke of were ones HE WORKED WITH. He said nothing about ALL black people, he said THE ONES HE WORKED WITH... SIDE BY SIDE. There were no slaves at that time you dolt.
