Here is the problem I have with all this.....There are certain white Americans who moan and groan about why blacks "play the race card" and look at what we see, white Americans painting every black American who is young as a thug, because they wear a hoodie. Now, if we are on a level of generalizations people can say the same about not feeling comfortable around a disheveled white kid for fear of him pulling out an assault rifle in a crowded theater. I really see racist on this board and I'm sorry I don't worry about poet or evince, I worry about the several plus people who tend to outnumber two individuals who are making racist remarks.

It's quite annoying that you guys are making generalizations.

An important clarification: the game definitely exists, and has been around for at least a couple of years. I'm not claiming the game doesn't exist. But the idea that it's reached epidemic levels, or that it's only being played by young black people, is a fallacy. As Alan Noble convincingly writes, "Analyzing data is not as simple as watching some YouTube videos and Googling 'knockout game.'" And when it comes to the knockout game's supposed popularity, the data is almost entirely anecdotal:

This is precisely the type of story meant to animate the deepest recesses of our lizard brains—"Danger lurks around every corner! Identify your enemy!" At the epicenter of this narrative is Colin Flaherty, a writer for WorldNetDaily who probably has a Google alert set up for "black suspect." He's made it his life's work to report any single crime perpetrated by a black person in the U.S. against a white person. In a recent blog post, he lists as evidence six separate crimes in Philadelphia over the course of two years, which share nothing in similarity except for the fact that they involved black people.


Imagine if another national "journalist" started doing the same for, say, any crime committed in Alabama, or any arson charge in the country. People would start to think Alabama was going through a crime epidemic, or that arson was becoming all the rage with criminals. That would be ridiculous, because it's ridiculous to assume that a few unrelated counts of arson make arson an epidemic. But when you inject race into the equation, it conveniently aligns with the assumptions of people who happen to be racist. That's the sort of twisted logic that justifies why more than half of the U.S. prison population is made up by black and Hispanic people, even though they comprise a quarter of the total population.


Crime happens to every type of person, and is perpetrated by every type of person. What makes the false narrative of the knockout game—or any "black mob violence" story—crop up every year is the fact that some people will always believe the color of someone's skin predisposes him to commit a crime. When a few YouTube videos are able to convince terrified white folks that young black people are dangerous, they may as well assume that all cats can play the keyboard.

And I'm really over the generalizations, stereotyping, and blanket indictments. Blacks and browns don't play any cards, least of all, any "imagined race card". One cannot play a card, to one's advantage, that everyone can see coming from a block away. Certain whites suggest that it's a reality as they are loathe to take responsibility for their own racism and prejudice, and would rather shift the blame onto blacks, whom they feel see racism behind every hood, rope and tree. We didn't just imagine racism, as being central to the Trayvon Martin murder. We experience it all the time....minding our own businesses, and being suspected of perpetually being "up to no good". Don't think we are not walking around thinking that "some whites" for some, and "most whites" for others, are up to "meaning no good".
Zimmerman is the only one who thinks he is white, obviously, because his Jewish judge father told him so, and so he did the "white thing" (reminiscent of O. J. Simpson, who got to thinking he was honorary "white"), narcissist that he is....and got him a "white wife", abused her, and moved onto the blond white girlfriend....except while he killed a black youth and got away with it...he got a rude awakening, when he decided to get physical and threatening with a
"white woman", who wasn't about to put up with the same shit his wife was willing to put up with. His "imagined" white privilege just evaporated. And now he is being treated like what he really is....."just another Mexican".

When black criminals target non-black victims -be it old white ladies for the knockout game or Chinese take-out delivery guys on bicycles- these incidents are rarely classified as hate crimes, even though the victims are selected on the basis of race.

This particular incident was covered in local papers, but the majors in NYC (Times, Post, Daily News) wouldn't touch it (which is why it's hard to find links for)... until local whites pressured the NYPD to classify this incident as a bias incident. Initially, the NYPD refused to classify it as such:

It told of "a particularly vile incident" in a Brooklyn park, where two dozen black girls attacked six white girls because the whites were playing basketball on a public court that the blacks wanted to use. Two of the white girls were hospitalized.

"Imagine a role reversal: Two dozen white girls attacking a half-dozen black girls," the Post editorial said. "Al Sharpton would have dislocated a hip in his haste to get to the scene. And the police almost certainly would have filed hate-crime charges."

Police charged the attackers only with simple assault, but city lawyers said charges had to be re-filed under New York's hate-crime law. "We're not great fans of that statute," the editorial said. "Crimes of violence should be adjudicated on the basis of physical facts, not a state of mind."

I have said the same thing, as recently as last May, when I criticized new "gender identity" provisions in Pennsylvania's ethnic intimidation law.

Now, hate crimes can be defined if a victim is targeted by "actual or perceived" bias aimed at sexual orientation, race or whatever. That, I said, creates "thought police" who can prosecute people "regardless of whether that motivation actually exists."

That problem is compounded if hate-crime laws are not applied on a color-blind basis.

He was addressing conventional wisdom. I believe it to be a myth. One or two incidences, being fanned to flames, by folks with an agenda...to further demonize black youth, not getting the desired result from the Trayvon Martin debacle.
