Tennessee Republican attacks ‘disgusting’ Humane Society over ‘tape and rape’

Tennessee state Rep. Andy Holt (R-Dresden) described the Humane Society as radicals and accused them of promoting rape-like tactics against farmers, according to emails released Friday.

Kayci McLeod of the Human Society had written to Holt earlier this month to ask him to oppose legislation that would criminalize activists who exposed animal abuse on factory farms and in slaughterhouses.

Holt, who sponsored the bill in the Tennessee House, was apparently not too pleased to have received the correspondence.

“I am extremely pleased that we were able to pass HB 1191 today to help protect livestock in Tennessee from suffering months of needless investigation that propagandist groups of radical animal activists, like your fraudulent and reprehensibly disgusting organization of maligned animal abuse profiteering corporatists, who are intent on using animals the same way human-traffickers use 17 year old women,” he replied.

“You work for a pathetic excuse for an organization and a pathetic group of sensationalists who seek to profit from animal abuse. I am glad, as an aside, that we have limited your preferred fund-raising methods here in the state of Tennessee; a method that I refer to as ‘tape and rape.’ Best wishes for the failure of your organization and it’s true intent.”

Ummm...what exactly is being done to the food supply...i mean, Animals that is so bad?

I assume the article is in it's entirety.

animal cruelty is a crime. Isn't it also a crime to conspire to cover up a crime? I think the animal rights groups in TN need to file complaints, millions of them, against the legislators that vote yes on this.

When animals so weakened by illness or malnutrition they can't even climb the ramp to the slaughterhouse are allowed to be processed and sold to you and I, the potential for the illness being passed on to consumer is increased.

Just what do you think is done in slaughterhouses, lads...???? do you think the animals are bored to death with classical music and fairy tales or re-runs of Obama speeches...

and whats animal cruality got to do with diseased livestock ?....thats 2 different issues.

I have nothing against slaughterhouses, since I do love my meat. the issue is the added cruelty that isn't necessary. like packing 1,000 chickens in to a space that would only fit 300, or dismembering cows while they are still alive.

Animal rights? Really? I agree that cruelty to animals is a crime. I don't agree that using our natural resources is. People that think animals have rights like humans probably voted for that lying sack of crap that is currently violating the Constitution right and left.

Livestock are bled before they can be filleted....they can't be alive....

Yeah, its a gruesome job, bloody and disgusting to me, and that can't be denied....but steaks and chicken nuggets don't grow on trees.....

Waaaait a second NOVA....if conditions are the cause of the illnesses, it has everything to do with it.

Furthermore, pumping them full of hormones for a bigger yield and pumping them full of antibiotics because it's cheaper than keeping them healthy to begin with ought to be outlawed.

Believe me, I am no prude when it comes to animals....I follow the Jim Gaffigan line of thinking...."animals: fun to pet, better to chew"

But, if we're pumping them full of bullshit and we consume it....we get a dose of it too...which could be a factor in drug resistant strains of bacteria(along with others, of course).

so you don't believe that people can be cruel to animals?

again, pay attention to the words that i'm posting. I am ok with slaughtering animals for food. I'm not ok with exceptional and extra cruelty for the sake of efficiency. An animal bred and raised to feed humans has a hard enough life. It's not necessary to add to that.

Sure. We should outlaw everything. Isn't that the proverbial answer for the weak? Let's get a lawyer and create some BS legislation that protects the weak?

Holy shit....never thought you and I would agree on something...have a beer:beer:

What a crock of shit. So...do you and your kids eat food that's bought in stores, sold at restaurants? Yes? Fucking weakling.

thats got nothing to do with how animals are slaughtered ..... we are supposed to have inspectors, the FDA, for your 'illness' and 'antibiotics' concerns...

like I said ...its a different issue....animals get sick, animals get meds and drugs, deal with it.

Isn't Obama FDA doing a wonderful job of policing the industry ?

What's your point? Your response doesn't address mine, and in fact, goes off into never-never land. Your point is "there should be a law". Weak, leftist, whiny-ass crap. I don't need the government to wipe my a$$. Apparently, you do.

...or using a forklift to pick up a cow too weakened to climb the ramp and not being concerned when the forklift tears into the animal's flesh while trying to get it off the ground.

NOT.

NECESSARY.
