Fox News calls Westboro Baptist "Left Wing Westboro Cult"?

I didn't say it was relevant, just that I learned something. Fred Phelps is a Democrat. I had no idea, I just assumed along with most people that he'd be in the American Conservative Party or something stupid. He certainly isn't a republican though, he's way beyond that with protesting soldier's funerals thanking God for their deaths. There isn't a republican around that I have ever seen that supports the nut job.

Just saying "socially conservative" doesn't make him somebody republicans have to claim, they're disgusted by him.

Republicans should reject all social conservatives. Apologizing for Akin and Mourdock makes one wonder if they would not embrace Phelps if the political climate becomes anymore favorable to or tolerant of their repugnant views.

MANY social conservatives don't support free markets they just want minorities off of government aid or to make sure it all goes through their religious organizations, ie, Bush's faith based initiatives.

You learned nothing relevant to this thread. Just another red herring from the social conservatives. Fred Phelps past political affiliation has no bearing on whether it is accurate to call the WBC left wing. They are socially conservative and those ideas are more abundant in the right wing. Party affiliation had nothing at all to do with the op. It's just a diversion from a small minded fool who does not think beyond labels and slurs.

Which ideas are those?

It is so enjoyable watching the left wing twist themselves in knots trying to say that even though Phelps ran as a democrat, supported a democrat, was endorsed by their Presidential candidate, he is not in fact..........wait for it..............a democrat.

Freaking hilarious

He's not a social conservative in the proper meaning of the term either. Most folks here recognize that I am about as socially conservative as they are made yet I'd side solidly with the bikers at Phelp's ridiculous protests. I have many gay friends including a couple at my (Catholic) church and if the subject is broached we say "Jesus loves all sinners" and that's that. My sins are for me to deal with and theirs is for them.

He was a Democrat in 1999. You, and I, have no idea what he is today. Other than batshit crazy, of course.

True that, he probably believes in anthropogenic global warming as well as the idea that God is Hate rather than Love regardless of what his book says...

Can we say, non sequitur. The point was that WBC is not left wing. The point was not that Fred Phelps is not or was not a Democrat.

Of course, they are socially conservative. The article detailing Phelps, one member of the WBC, support of Gore stated that his support of Gore was premised on Gore's endorsement of socially conservative positions.

No doubt about it, he is primarily motivated by and known for an extreme brand of social conservativism. Who Phelps voted for does not define the whole of the WBC. I am sure many members have other affiliations. Their central ideas are not "left wing" but socially conservative.

Fox is an organization committed to spreading misinfromation.

I have no idea whether he is a democrat or not. I never claimed he was a republican.

In fact, no political party was mentioned in the OP. It was the "left wing" description that I laughed at.

phelps is a professional troll who uses fear of litigation to frighten municipalities into paying his group to settle their lawsuits filed when they concoct demonstrations loosely based on current events.

You do more to HELP them by posting their stunts than you would to IGNORE THEM

When you log on, do you first ask yourself, "How can I possibly be more pathetic today?"
