I didn't say it was relevant, just that I learned something. Fred Phelps is a Democrat. I had no idea, I just assumed along with most people that he'd be in the American Conservative Party or something stupid. He certainly isn't a republican though, he's way beyond that with protesting soldier's funerals thanking God for their deaths. There isn't a republican around that I have ever seen that supports the nut job.
Just saying "socially conservative" doesn't make him somebody republicans have to claim, they're disgusted by him.
Republicans should reject all social conservatives. Apologizing for Akin and Mourdock makes one wonder if they would not embrace Phelps if the political climate becomes anymore favorable to or tolerant of their repugnant views.
MANY social conservatives don't support free markets they just want minorities off of government aid or to make sure it all goes through their religious organizations, ie, Bush's faith based initiatives.
