Honest Question: If Obama is re-elected, where does Republican Party go from there?

Thats like saying Christians should abandon their God and their values because they're not very popular.....or remove some laws because folks don't want to obey them....
Or shitcan the Constitution because it holds back what could become government tyranny...

Democrats have done that very thing to gain and retain power.....and still use those tactics.....
If some folks won't vote for you because of your values, you change your values to keep getting elected....

I don't believe that will fly with conservatives.....they'll just probably fight on and win or lose on the merits....the pendulum swings both ways...

You view those religious folks as fanatics, they see the union thugs as fanatics....its different perspectives....

I haven't forgotten anybody. What you forgot is that democrats don't have the same identity problem that republicans have .. which is what brings us to this conversation. It's what is bringing republican thinkers to this conversation.

The republican base .. as you described it .. is not the democratic base. They don't come from the rural south.

Face it .. the southern strategy has doomed your party unless it figures out how to adapt to a different America.

I absolutely agree that Conservatives and Republicans have identity problem.....and mis-characterizations and character assassination of some people
on the right is nothing short of astounding....the double standard is so painfully obvious .....

The medias total turn to the left and mis-information they call news is the rights biggest hurdle.....total and unjust ridicule on the tv is constant, from
Morning Joe to David Lettermen and almost everything in between.....a sly comment here and some sly spin there.....what you don't notice
but has its effect on every viewer......to the indoctrination of school children....its relentless.

Again its perspective and perception....
They ridicule their values, their religion, their Holidays, make ridiculous claims that the right wants dirty water and dirty air.....its the death by a thousand
cuts......and its working for the most part....

A few years ago Bush was constantly demanized for high gas prices....today the spin is, "The President can't control gas prices".....if Romney gets in, there will
be a complete about face on things just like that.

Where the hell is that written? I was a Republican for over 20 years of my life and I've never been a conservative. Very few establishment Republicans in the Great Lakes and NE Region are conservatives. It's only working class whites, mostly southern, who insist on this "Conservative" bugaboo which, unfortunately for Republicans, has become a code word for racism.

That's a certain degree of hyperbole. The republican party is not doomed if it doesn't abandon the Southern Strategy. It will be less relevent in Presidential politics because they won't be able to build a ruling coalition which means they eventually lose influence on the federal courts but because of the geographical aspects of our political systems they could maintian a significant position in congress for a long time to come. So they are not "Doomed" but unless they reform they will become less and less relevent and therefore lesss influential and that in term will drive reform. The Republican party is not about to die and go away. Either party, if faced with irrellevancy, will reform.

Thats the label the media and the left has tagged them with and that just the way it is.....I never thought of myself as some stringent conservative either....

I remember a time when the red states were the symbol of Democrat leaning states, but with red being associated with those less than friendly to the US, now its
used to show the conservative/Republican states.....odd turn of events, no ?.....
Small potatoes ?.....No. Its an effective tool to put the Repubs in the less that flattering light....

To compound the dilemna that republicans find themselves in, their base is shrinking, and by 2016 they'll have an even less chance of winning national elections than they do now.

One thing for sure, they do not have the ability to conform and adapt to changing demographics and social evolution. Without that ability, their future as a viable counter-balance to the Democratic Party does not look good.

What I predict is a fracturing of the party. The Tea Party wing of the party cannot get along with anything other than themselves. Moderate republicans will have the example of their failures to once again have a voice in the party. I predict that they will fracture, and a third party will emerge on the right.

i think they need to stay out of people's bedroom, unless there is not consent or something like incest. if you want to be for less government, stop trying to govern people's personal lives. how does a homosexual marrying another homosexual affect a republican? how does legalizing medicinal marijuan affect a republican?

Its not medical care, pregnancy is not a disease....
its legal....whats the problem ? Its not the taxpayers duty to pay for anyones abortion.

You, as a married man get that tax break, you also expect he government to "fund it"! Why should gays not have the same rights as you? Why shouldn't they get the same tax breaks? When the Bush tax cuts expire, the marriage penalty will be back, I bet gays will still want to marry, tax break or not.

You wish for some people to be second class citizens and that isn't moral.
