When Did Feminism Become So Embarrassing?

talk like this doesn't really help women's rights. it this type of bullshit that you and darla spew that causes a big rift between genuine issues.

like it or not, it is people like you who get heard the most.

God I really hate you, you have got me agreeing with you.

Just because I refuse to embrace Gloria Steinem's version of "equality" does not mean that I am a chauvinist, or that I believe men are somehow better equipped to lead. What I am suggesting is that Gloria Steinem's brand of feminism has done nothing to actually advance women's success in the workplace. On the contrary, it is a hindrance. Women who associate with that faction have "sexual harassment lawsuit" written all over them. Like it or not, that's how the cookie crumbles.

Sez you.

I find it strange that women like Margaret Thatcher, Golda Meir or Sirimavo Bandaranaikeare are never mentioned, I would argue that they had far more long lasting effects than the like of Betty Friedan et al. I would also argue that technology in the form of the contraceptive pill and labour saving devices had as much if not more to do with women's emancipation.

What are babbling about now you doddering old woman basher?. Never mentioned by whom??

Your stupidity really shines through in your crack about birth control pills. Your hateful need to bash feminsts obviously precludes your picking up a book and learning the history of the pill you fool.

Feminism is the act of advocating equal rights for women, nOw tell me this, how can Mayer say she is not a feminist? How can someone claim Margaret Thatcher or Golda Meir doesn't support women's rights?

Why have women allowed men and women who don't support equal rights to define feminsm and promote it as a movement full of crazy women?

I have been a feminist since the day I helped organize a sit in to protest girls not being allowed to wear pants to school. I am proud of my support of women's rights.

There are currently 19 women ceo's of fortune 500 companies. Full stop. Right there is all the evidence needed that feminism is needed as much as ever.

Have any of the babbling fools on this thread personally asked these 19 women if they identify as feminist? Of course not. But onward they march secure in their ignorance.

i don't believe the women or yourself have allowed it. people define ideas, movements by their own biases or beliefs. if all they see are people like darla and bijou spouting their version of feminism....then of course that is how their view will be defined. hopefully they see more people like you.

Let's be clear, though. The word wasn't 'hijacked' by Steinem. It was DEFINED by her for our generation and the next one, and gained traction and notoriety as a result. The insecure penises who felt threatened by the traction had to warp the definition and demonize its proponents. The quaking penii reveal themselves every time they describe feminists as 'loud mouthed'. They prefer barbies who don't talk back.

Thanks

This thread I think really shows why. Feminists are ugly. Feminists are loud mouths. Marcotte is right...it has always taken women willing to suffer consequences to advance feminism and feminist goals. Not all or even most women at up to the task. You have to be willing to stop mewling for the approval of a doddering fruitcake like Tom, and a masturbating monkey like Voltaire and his friend 3 d. Our culture privileges male approval over almost everything. I understand women who can't stand up to that. In mayer's case she likely has always had other priorities. Climbing the ladder in a field notoriously hostile to women for one. Identifying as a feminist in the tech world would almost definitely have changed the course of her career.

She moved up the ladder in spite of the difficulty, beating the odds, because....

wait for it...

she's hot.

My reference to the Pill is a statement of fact and by the way I don't need to read about it in books, I was there when it happened.

my good lord.

yeah...i can't imagine why anyone would get a negative vibe about feminism after reading your crap.

My point is I don't share the respect that some on here have for those people. I read Fear of Flying once and found it to be intensely boring. I even tried to read Betty Friedan back in the '70s but I couldn't get through more than a few pages.

I think that this really epitomizes male entitlement. Here is a fool who has been told his entire life that his opinions hold great weight and importance. A naval-gazing, self-important, pompous asshole obsessed with the smell of his own various bodily emissions. So much so that he actually believes that a movement that improved the lives and alleviated the suffering of an untold number of women can be dismissed because he is too stupid to get through a book.

He’s as important as the pimple on a dog’s ass, but this guy thinks his opinion of feminist thinkers is enough to discredit a movement that changed the world.

That’s male entitlement right there. Fucking unbelievable. And delusional.
