The shooter is a Tea Party member in Colorado...

Without knowing the specifics of this case and the son-mother relationship I think we've all known people with a screw loose where you probably wouldn't expect them to do anything bad but if they did you wouldn't be all that shocked either.

With this guy I almost expect it someday, but then I think, when things do happen isn't it always the ones you DIDN'T expect? For instance, with this guy here, already I heard on the radio at lunch that an old neighbor of his from California said he was a quiet, shy guy. I mean, who knows?

Yes. I contend that we would rather just not think about what someone is capable of when we know they are a little "off." So we put such stuff to the backs of our minds.

Realistically what could we do though? Do we arrest and put in a home everyone we think is just a little bit "off"? We've all seen crazy. Just walk the streets off San Francisco and you will see plenty of truly mentally ill people that are crazy. But there are those others that wouldn't "test" as mentally ill or "test" as truly crazy but are just a little "off".

We can be a bit more alert to the issue if somebody close to them tells "us" that they may be going off the deep end.

Yep. That's why I think when it's someone you know, absent a specific threat (which there is no excuse for not reporting), you just have that fear in the back of your mind. But there's really nothing you can do. You can't ruin someone's life because you think someone "might" do "something".

gee, why would ABC make a big issue out of TEA party connections with zero fucking facts???????

What horseshit.

Of course ABC didn't make a "big issue out of TEA party connection"...what they did was make a passing reference to the fact that SOMEONE with the same name had a page on the site...but you go right on making up bullshit that fits your worldview.

I agree. See the post a little further up. What can we do. If they aren't a family member...or even if they are we can't watch them all 24/7. And the fact that there are those who are not "truly crazy" but just "a little off" makes it more difficult in our society. The "a little off" person is not usually disqualified from purchasing a weapon (gun or otherwise) so it becomes most difficult. We have a guy that lives about 6 miles from me (that's in my neighborhood so you can see how we're arranged here) whom I would describe as "a little off" but nothing keeps him from purchasing guns. It stays pushed to the back of my mind but I have thought about what certain stressors in life could set him off. Hope it never happens. But none of this curbs my stance on the 2nd ammendment.

zappa, don't play dumb and don't take us for idiots. there was only ONE reason why this fucktard bothered to mention that a 50+ year old guy in the TEA party had the same name as the 24 year old shooter.

LMAO... it was completely irresponsible reporting. Period.

I yield to the guy with the Master's in Journalism...

Oh wait...you DON'T have a Master's in MassComm?

Well then that makes you the PERFECT judge of what is and isn't "irresponsible" journalism, doesn't it?

Right...because they HAD THE SAME NAME and reporters were looking for background info on the shooter.

When a major news outlet doesn't even verify the information before posting their story, it is irresponsible journalism. That is basic journalism. You don't need a masters degree to know that.

There are some basics for you. Perhaps you can educate yourself a bit.

http://gawker.com/5927731/ Who coud have killed 12 people at a midnight showing of The Dark Knight in Aurora, Colorado? Former FBI profiler Clint Van Zandt, appearing on MSNBC with Chuck Todd, speculates: "is this simply the terrible, terrible collision between some dark Trekkie-like person's fantasy world and reality?"

Look at this Cawacko, they tried to blame trekkies! Now they have really gone too far!
