Condi Rice for VP?

Patriotism beyond saluting a flag is not confined to europe. Continuing on our course of WAR and more WARS for profit is what bankrupts this nation. Our cities crumble along with our infrastructure and the jobs take a flight overseas. And you think that's Europes fault?
for some reason you are pointedly ignoring the European economy, which is certainly more relevant than the European nationalism or the European military.....Greece isn't in a financial crisis because of military spending or because of capitalism.....

No, I do not.

then the answer to your question is no, I will not be able to explain it to you, because you are ignoring what is going on......

I said communalism, not communism. blah blah blah blah-blah blah-blah blah..[socialist propaganda link]blah blah-blah blah-blah blahblah...

WTF is "communalism?" Did you have to resort to creating NEW words to call Communism now? Is it THAT bad of an idea, and such a miserable failure, you had to create a new "moniker" for it? Oh... no problem BAC, we're all used to that around here! Right?

The bottom line is this... You are a smart compassionate guy, but you have been brainwashed. Your mind is incapable of comprehending this because you think I am lying to you, but I am not. For centuries now, we have watched Socialism try to achieve success and greatness and fail. Meanwhile, Capitalism has achieved success, endured complete economic collapse, fought two world wars and won, then rebuilt the success all over again. Worldwide, our ideology has liberated and freed far more people than your ideology has killed and slaughtered, but you keep trying really hard to catch up!

I am no different than you, I also care about people and have compassion for my fellow man. However, I believe that comes through individual liberty and freedom, which means the government has as little control over my capitalist endeavors as possible, and I am able to gain a better life for myself, without depending on the government. It's fine to have compassion for people, I devote a lot of my personal time helping others in need, I believe we should ALL do this... but I do not think this is the responsibility of government, nor should we expect it to be.

You should look a little deeper brother .. excerpt ..

For those who haven't followed this saga, let me reassure you that the story is quite straightforward: Greece is bankrupt. And although Greece's bankruptcy is headline news this week—Greece's weak finances threaten the stability of the euro, the common European currency—the truth is that Greece has been bankrupt for years. Its budget deficit in 2009 was 12.7 percent of GDP. Overall debt was 113.4 percent of GDP. Those are not figures that can be achieved overnight.

Some of Greece's economic problems are highly specific. The country has an unusually old-fashioned legal system, a bureaucracy straight out of a Kafka novel, and a byzantine system of regulation worse even than our own. The Wall Street Journal points out that—extraordinarily—Greece, practically alone among developed economies, does not have a centralized and computerized land registry, which means, for example, that farmers can surreptitiously cultivate public land and eventually become de facto owners. By European standards, Greece also has an exceptionally closed economy. Barriers to doing business, both legal and informal, are very high, which is part of why Greece has one of the world's lowest levels of foreign investment.

More to the point, Greece has borne all these burdens for a long, long time. Yet nothing has been done, because the country's deeply partisan political system is totally paralyzed. Try to carry out any social security reform in Greece—raise the pension age, stop early retirements—and watch what happens: Mass rioting followed the passage of a pension reform bill in 2008, and the government became so unpopular it lost the next election. The land registry cannot be modernized, because those who possess land illegally will fight back. The barriers to investment cannot be lowered, because business lobbies are more powerful than politicians.

The political class is aware of the country's economic problems, but it denies them. Last month, the European Commission issued a report accusing Greece's finance ministry and statistical service of "severe irregularities" stemming from "the submission of incorrect data." In eurospeak, that means the commissioners think the Greeks have been lying: That 12.7 percent budget deficit was originally forecast to be 3.7 percent, and plenty of other figures coming out of Greece seem to have been way off. No country makes accounting errors like that by accident.

Greece shares its financial weaknesses with several other European countries (nowadays referred to—really!—as the PIGS: Portugal, Italy—or sometimes Ireland—Greece, and Spain). But in a different sense, Greece's weaknesses are also shared by the United States. Though we do not have precisely the same problems, we do have a similar level of political paralysis and a similar level of partisanship. It is not possible to reform U.S. Social Security: President Bush tried halfheartedly and gave up before he started. It may not be possible to reform health care, either: Hillary Clinton failed, and President Obama, despite throwing in expensive sweeteners, may well fail. The influence of lobbyists cannot be reduced. The power of interest groups to influence legislation cannot be tamed. We might not have farmers squatting on state land, but we do have farmers dependent on huge, distorting agricultural subsidies that apparently cannot be reduced.

The suggestion that the health and well-being of citizens is too expensive to consider makes no sense to me. Unregulated and unfettered capitalism is always doomed to fail.

I don't think I've asked you for a dime brother.

This isn't about me .. it's about what is in the best interests of this country and its people.

What you suggest would be analogous to you saying that if I like women, then only I and people like me should treat them fairly. Society doesn't work that way. Free healthcare for all Americans is in the best interests of a better and stronger America. I still await your response on why it would not be.

In fact, so would free access to education .. cradle to grave .. be in the best interests of a better and stronger America.

Where would the money come from?

Let me give you a picture of where ..
There is no such thing as "free" healthcare. We will pay for it one way or another. In Canada they "pay" (like everywhere it is paid in higher taxes but that isn't what I'm talking about here) in waiting periods and limited access. This is why we now have terms such as "Medical Tourism"...

WTF is "communalism?" Did you have to resort to creating NEW words to call Communism now? Is it THAT bad of an idea, and such a miserable failure, you had to create a new "moniker" for it? Oh... no problem BAC, we're all used to that around here! Right?

First .. apologies accepted.

Communalism: 1. (Government, Politics & Diplomacy) a system or theory of government in which the state is seen as a loose federation of self-governing communities
2. (Government, Politics & Diplomacy) an electoral system in which ethnic groups vote separately for their own representatives
3. (Sociology) loyalty to the interests of one's own ethnic group rather than to society as a whole
4. (Sociology) the practice or advocacy of communal living or ownership

Not sure how it is you didn't know this.

I appreciate your perspective brother .. but I seriously do not share it. Talk about brainwashed?

Take a look out your window. Capitalism is failing all around you. We've become the food stamp nation with jobs flying out the window to the lowest bidder. That's the nature of capitalism. There is no patriotism anywhere to be found in unfettered capitalism.

Take a look at the mortgage crisis .. and say goodbye to the American dream for millions of Americans.

Social Security and Medicare are the only things keeping millions of American seniors alive .. many of whom have seen their pensions fly away.

Healthcare is the leading cause of bankruptcy in this country.

Education is in a shambles .. and its getting worse.

The state of our cities and communities are dire .. and the state budgets continue to shrink.

We exist in a state of perpetual war that benefits your corporatists masters alone .. and our politicians are their puppets.

This nation is owned by the capitalist plutocracy .. and a bit of it drifts away everyday.

Sorry brother .. I'm not that confused or deluded.

You mean like the medical tourism of Cuba. :0)

Cuba welcomes American medical tourists

The US ranks 38th in life expectancy .. and its dropping.

Stay the course?

I think not.

No, I do not. What they are discovering are misplaced priorities .. the same misplaced priorities that we have here.

Cuba has been under an embargo for 12 US presidents .. more than 40 years. Yet, they have so many doctors that they export them. They have free access to healthcare and education for all their citizens .. AND, they have one of the best healthcare systems in the world. They continue to make new discoveries and solutions to health issues that are being used all over the world.

No, I do not agree with your assessment.

Could you name some of those is discoveries coming out of Cuba?

I rely on spell-check more than my brain sometimes.

If THIS is the kind of government you believe in, you are not a Socialist. In fact, you will never achieve this through Socialism. But beyond that, let me explain that you are believing in something that you will never witness the realization of. I know it is a great and wonderful idea, and if the rest of the world could see things the way you do, we would all be so much better off, and things would be fantastic, but here's the thing... We won't ever all be that way.

Wait... Capitalism is failing all around us--we've become the food stamp nation? Brother, those are two different sports. Capitalism is currently failing because we have an anti-capitalist president and radical socialist left-wing administration, doing everything but using the national guard against American commerce. You have an AG that is probably one of the most corrupt ever, going after corporations, blocking commerce when he can, impeding the ability of states to collect their OWN resources and have economic prosperity. Flying TOTALLY in the face of your "vision" of "communalism."

Take a look at the mortgage crisis .. and say goodbye to the American dream for millions of Americans.

AGAIN... this is not the result of Capitalism. This is the result of Governmental tinkering into something they should have stayed the fuck out of! By Socialists, trying to implement Socialist policies, to "help the needy" and make things all better!

Social Security and Medicare are the only things keeping millions of American seniors alive .. many of whom have seen their pensions fly away.

YES, and AGAIN... Social Security is going to eventually go TITS UP! Why? Because we've stolen the money to do more Socialist crap that hasn't panned out!
And you keep supporting people who will steal MORE of it, and KEEP trying to COMMIE our way out of this, when we KNOW it won't work!

Healthcare is the leading cause of bankruptcy in this country.

BULLSHIT! And so what if it is? At least we are a country where people CAN get health care and not die, before declaring bankrupt and starting over. 7 years of no credit for saving my life? Not a huge price to ask, is it? As opposed to... Hey, you're screwed, State says you've gotten to be too old for this type surgery....sorry!

Education is in a shambles .. and its getting worse.

Again... A SOCIALIST FAILURE!

The state of our cities and communities are dire .. and the state budgets continue to shrink.

The ones who are in the worst shape, are those who have endorsed and implemented SOCIALIST policies.

We exist in a state of perpetual war that benefits your corporatists masters alone .. and our politicians are their puppets.

When you start speaking like Ted Kaczynski, I believe you are.

Homeless Crack heads and meth addicts currently get free healthcare in the USA. I know, my sister is one.

It doesn't matter what you believe.

:0)

You don't even know what socialism is .. yet you presume to tell me what I'm not.

Simply hilarious.

You don't understand the relationships between socialism and communalism OR why they are not the same thing .. which I never claimed. I called it communalism, not socialism .. but you don't know what either one of them is.

There is no need for this conversation to drift any further, would you agree?

You are never going to understand the concept .. and I'm good with that.

Boston Herald endorses Condoleezza Rice

Never mind that it almost certainly won't happen: The Boston Herald is out today with a ringing endorsement for a Vice President Rice:

The chorus of Condoleezza Rice fans imploring Mitt Romney to add the former secretary of State to his presidential ticket is growing. And OK you can count us in that camp.

Oh sure, there are lots of good choices out there — Sen. Marco Rubio is young and smart with tons of charisma. And Rep. Paul Ryan knows the ins and outs of congressional budgeting better than any human being on the planet.

But Romney needs the kind of foreign policy gravitas that Rice would bring to the ticket....

Seems a little late and, more importantly, a bit of a knock against the forthcoming ticket's likely lack of foreign policy experience.

LMAO... So even the Boston Herald is saying... 'meh...pretty good pick for Romney'... but BAC is still convinced, it won't be her!

Is this wishful thinking BAC, or do your really believe there is no possible way? I mean, $500... that sounds like a man convinced to me.
