This year’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) was held amid global turmoil. While Russia invades Ukraine, many say that China remains the bigger threat. However, what are the prerequisites to confronting China and Russia? Experts and lawmakers at the conference seem to agree that energy independence is the way.

I spoke with Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) on the Russia threat and his big focus on bringing domestic manufacturing—particularly for pharmaceuticals—back to the United States, and why he thinks the United States needs to confront China. Braun highlights the long-term threat that is the Chinese regime, and what we can do.

Then I spoke with KT McFarland, former deputy national security adviser, about what Russia and China seek to accomplish. In terms of relative similarities, how does the Ukraine situation translate into the regional power play, and how Taiwan is reacting to the situation as the Chinese Communist Party seeks to invade in the future?
