The U.S. senators from most states are either ideological allies, or closely related (i.e., conservative republican/centrist democrat....or....liberal dem/moderate repub)
Iowa is totally wierd. A far rightwing theocrat (Grassley), and a progressive liberal Dem (Harkin).
Wierd.
Any other states that have a total ideological split like that?

Colorado, Ken Salazar (D) and Wayne Allard (R)... Definitely not "ideological allies"...

Surely you jest, Damo.
Salazar is firmly in the centrist democrat camp. He's only one of two Dem senators who is STILL supporting Lieberman, even after Joe lost.

However, Wayne is not even close to centrist. He is very much in the Religious Right camp.

Yes, but there are many examples of a conservative republican and a centrist democrat representing a state.
Other than Iowa, I can't think of another example of totally ideological opposites in the senate, like Harkin and Grassley.
