View Full Version : Report upgrade bugs here.

If you see something that is a bug, report it here and I will see if I can fix it.

We're almost done with the upgrade, there's still mods and other stuff I am installing in the background, but we'll get there with a bit of help from the members.

It appears as if the groan/thanks mod is working like it is supposed to now. I've installed some table code (I may have to change it later, it seems to conflict with a different portion of the site yet to be published, one that is more designed for new folks than it is for forum members. You may want to change your bookmark to include forum.php at the end, like this: http://www.justplainpolitics.com/forum.php.

Thanks for being patient with me while I work on fixing the remaining bugs. I installed this because new updates for the software I was using is now stopped, and I wanted to keep the site as secure as possible ensuring new updates were installed when they became available.

Bugs fixed:
1. Groans not showing up all the time. FIXED!
2. Today's Posts Link poorly positioned, redundant "New Posts" link in navbar links. FIXED!
3. Facebook Connect Button right on top of the Login area. FIXED!

I moved the facebook connect button to a less in my way place. It was annoying me.

Damocles

Now to see if I can get the "publish to facebook" checkbox to move down to post options area. It's a sorta neat feature, but it is way too much in your face the way they set it up.

I have no clue why the thanks/groans are always on either side of the "blog" stuff, both at the bottom and in the stats of the postbit. I'll try to work on that, but right now it finally appears to be working.

Does anybody else have any other bugs they've noticed?

There are different options in your user CP for different editors. I tried duplicating your problem with the standard editor and was unable to create the problem. The words I highlight get the tags, it doesn't displace the tags onto other words.

I was wondering if you might be using a different type of editor box, like maybe the WYSIWYG editor.

I think it is the new way you have to upload them. Go to the album, click "upload pictures", this produces a popup. At the top of that you will see an "add files" button, click that one. Click the select files button at the bottom of that. Find your picture. Click the "upload files" button that appears. It adds the picture to the window, then, finally, click done, this adds it to the pending pictures area, then you click "save changes"....

Finally the picture is in the album.

It's been frustrating for me too. It looked like it all worked perfectly on the test site, but then three to five people testing something isn't the same thing as going live. Suddenly mods that I thought were available didn't work and needed to be rewritten. And I'm not expert in php I had to teach myself as I went... Plus changes to templating and to the database build...

I have a headache.

I'm loading IE9 right now. Let's see if I have any issues uploading images to the album. If I do I'm reporting it to vbulletin, they need to fix that.

So I uninstalled my latest java (which was the most recent for my OS) and reinstalled it coupled with restarting my computer. I went and tried to upload a new pic and it showed that it worked.yet the pic is not in my actual album visible on my wall? It is sitting in the upload box when I open the window to upload new pics, but it is not in my album?... odd-totally and distinctly odd :)

I think what happened is I thought I was in the Forum tab and went to the location of the Quick Links button because I like to use the Today's Posts instead of the New Posts button. When you are in What's New, the Mark Forums Read is in the same location. My wish list is a Today's Posts stand alone button.

Right, subscribe to the thread, in your UserCP it will tell you all the replies to the threads you want to watch, you can even set it to notify you by e-mail or PM... Fixed Today's Link problems in this way:

Since selecting the What's New Tab gets you the "new posts" search, I replaced the redundant link to "New Posts" in the Navbar links. Upper left you should see Today's Posts and that selection is no longer in the Quick Links menu.

You can still get the "New Posts" by simply selecting the What's New? Tab as always, but the redundant link is now replaced with Today's Posts.

It would be fun to have a place to post threads specific to your "today in history" offering. For instance with regards to today's "Donner Party"- a great historical fiction for 3rd 4th grader's to read about or have read aloud to them, is Patty Reed's Doll. It is the story detailing the Donner Party westward migration. The story is unique in that Patty Reed uses the doll she carried in her pocket to tell of her travails. It would be cool to discuss stuff like this- an apolitical sort of thing.

It would be cool to discuss stuff like this- an apolitical sort of thing.

I need to do this, and make an area specific to games like Werewolves too so that purists can avoid my off-topic dalliances.

Lowaicue, try changing to a different skin, then after browsing the board a bit changing back to your favorite. That should resolve CSS cache and js cache issues that would cause typing problems and the password not going to ***s...

Both LadyT and Lowaicue need to do this. I suspect that the java is stuck in cache on their browsers and this should fix it. Reloading new CSS and Java files.

Okay, I found a supposed "fix" for the problems people have been having with Internet Explorer. I'd like somebody to test them out if they could.

1. Speed, or lack of it, is becoming a PITA. I now have to enter as a guest, write any response on Word and copy and paste to here. Some threads completely hang up. Same on my iPod so it is not just my comp.
2. iPod sign in very often doesn’t work. Fields don’t clear and password does not convert to dots.
Just thought I’d mensh.

What browser are you using on your iPod? Which one on your computer? I'm hoping the upgrade to the YUI files and serving them from offsite may make this a bit better for you.

It's working fine for me in IE9 right now. I mean, very nice. Speed and everything.

Chrome is nice too. OMG it is so much faster than Mozilla or IE9, which were already pretty quick. I'm trying to find someplace that gives me the same problems. Which skin are you using? Maybe I have something messed up there...

Everything seems to be going swimmingly now. Thanks very much.
Just one more bug to fix:
In the iPod version there is no scroll slide (I don't know the correct name of it, it's just a 'thingy' to me) in the reply with quotation box. It's OK if you are replying to something of one or two lines but anything longer and it cannot be done.

He doesn't live in China.
I'm pretty sure he does, as he's made a big deal out of living in Hong Kong

I'll see if I can figure out how to add a scroll bar.

I suspect it's because the Chinese censors take so long deciding if they should let our posts get through.......

Don't believe your own propaganda.
I have never, let me repeat that: NEVER, had an issue with anything being stopped, prevented or slowed by any censor.
Here is an extract from a Google statement last year:

So earlier today we stopped censoring our search services—Google Search, Google News, and Google Images—on Google.cn. Users visiting Google.cn are now being redirected to Google.com.hk, where we are offering uncensored search in simplified Chinese, specifically designed for users in mainland China and delivered via our servers in Hong Kong. Users in Hong Kong will continue to receive their existing uncensored, traditional Chinese service, also from Google.com.hk. Due to the increased load on our Hong Kong servers and the complicated nature of these changes, users may see some slowdown in service or find some products temporarily inaccessible as we switch everything over.

Remember the story of sending two emails, one with the word 'bush' and one with out and the latter would always arrive before the former?
Of course, as an american you cannot possibly believe that your own government monitor the internet....can you?? It's always those dirty commies/democrats/liberals/socialists/blacks/greens/Brits/French/ Ay-rabs. It's never YOU!!!

Right, it's uncensored in one place. I'm glad. Quite glad actually, they'll see it doesn't cause as much upheaval as they think it might.

Okay, I added a line of code which should allow you to scroll down and make your post. I tested it on my 'droid and was able to scroll down and post on a huge post. Give it a test and tell me the result. If that doesn't work, maybe I should invest in the "mobile style"...

from hitting the keys to appearance this has taken 1m 15 secs. Not worth trying anymore. Sorry.
