Would someone please instruct me as to how to post a photograph, specifically a jpg, in response to a post here?

Put your cursor over the picture you wish to post and right click your mouse. Go to properties click on it then click on copy.

When you open up the quote post box click on the yellow postcard then paste the copied url into the box.

If you are posting a picture from your own computer use paper clip attachment in the quote box.

Thanks, but apparently I did it wrong. I feel foolish, as your instructions were quite clear.

You don't need to do that as it is overwritten by the paste.
