When they're dead they smell of shit and piss that's because when they did they shit and piss themselves. Actually that's not just old people.

True enough, but the older ones stink worse, even when you find them in winter, even worse at the height of summer. Now I'm trying to think if fatal trauma victims lose it like that, I can't remember. I do remember picking up the pieces of a bloke who threw himself in front of an express train once, but he was spread over about 500 metres of railway line so it was hard to tell.

It's a natural physiological function. At the point of death the sphincters relax and release the contents they've held back. Wow, what a pleasant thought just before lunch!

The suicide 'victims' were the worst ever. We'd get the "funny smell" call....

We'd go in with our SCBA on and still you could smell it. It oozed through the pores.

I would have given my right arm for apparatus during a desert summer many years ago when I got a call, elderly woman hadn't been seen for two weeks. I stood outside her little shack and didn't even need to open the door to know where she was. I had to burn my clothes later, you know what it's like.

You can taste it in the air. It is so totally overwhelming. Hence the realization that we could bring SCBAs with us, we are firefighters..

Lucky blokes Firies, well equipped. I had to boot the door in of the lady's hut. I was quick enough to jump out of the way (the house was completely closed up in a week of 100F plus weather) but my partner was standing in the doorway and puked everywhere, poor bugger, I should have warned him :D
