I have worked out the skewing and positioning as well as opacity settings to make the image bright and the theater dark. What do you think so far? The pics are going to fade in and out.

People would upload their own pictures. As far as I understand his idea.

threadjack!!

Hey Damo, I recently got paint.net and I'm playing with gradients trying to make shiny buttons and such. Do these look decent? I'm doing it with MSpaint and then filtering with irfanview for the final blurring. What do you think. Should I get adobe or are these good enough? I want them to look professional.

The top two look a bit like eyeballs and the orange one is hard to read... Other than that they look pretty good.

Ah, I see. Those are buttons? Aren't they a bit large?

Labels help to envision. Also how they are used.

I was just looking for some feedback. He right too. They are fricken huge. I thought they were spheres, but I could see them being buttons if resized.

here's some new buttons I'm making for a slide show. They will light up really cool using a white background and changing the opacity slowly when you mouse over them. I have the script working but i'm too lazy to upload it right now LOL
http://h1.ripway.com/tinyscript/left.gifhttp://h1.ripway.com/tinyscript/right.gif

be honest. are they cheesy or do they look decent. Or both? LOL I'm simply mimicking stuff I've seen. I got zero instruction and I'm doing them totally ass backwards. instead of using layers I used paint and cut selections from paint.net which I used to make the gradients.

That's not bad considering you are using Paint they are absolute genius...

:D

Of course they need to be a bit smaller... ;)

OK here they are smaller, as requested and with the light up effect. This page is for mozilla only because I'm doing the css right in the image tag. Simple shift was cool enough.
http://h1.ripway.com/tinyscript/buttons.html

Should they be even smaller? LOL I value your opinion. I have a bias for flashy bright sites but I know that it must turn off many people who just want a clean web surfing experience without being assaulted by endless graphic eye candy. But I also want anything I do to look up to date and not like I used a template from 1998.

What do you think? Seriously. Are they passe? has the shiny era passed already and I'm beating a dead horse? You might have a better ear for the trends than I get surfing graphic sites and javascript coding pages.

thanks again , Damo. I appreciate any feedback.

OK I couldn't help myself. I had to test a method of adding gradients to existing stuff. hehe it worked.

And I wanted to see how clear the gif images are with paint.net so I found a cool font. I got the wrong quote though, sorry. LOL

Yes, that's about the right size...

FYI, that one looks horrible on my Part Trois Black skin, but I suppose if it appears on a brighter background, it will look awesome. I can see the JPP heading, just not the text below it, and the heading looks pretty cool, even with the bad background...

javascript and canvas tag. the pages are untouched images. It's for the page turn slideshow. Good for artists who do pencil drawings.
http://h1.ripway.com/tinyscript/glossycanvas/bookmiddleImage.html
here's a link to the base page. It's a simple script. took about 15 minutes and worked first time through. I also already made the corner flip graphics, but I have to build the animation when you mouse over the bottom right corner. I guess I have to make a flip for the left corner too. Shit! that one was tough. setting up the gradients to get the right effect was a bitch. oh well. here's a pic of the page curl

gradients are still very big but the buttons should be more high res, possibly vector if you aren't already. i didn't check

OK I finished the 3d perspective flipping math and drawing of the images. Now I just need to make a variable that runs through the angles and flips these babies.
It's javascript, so the bottleneck is going to be the graphic rendering. Here's my trick. I'm going to draw the images in each position and save them set to invisible. Then when I need to see the page when flipping, I'll breifly make it visible and hopefully I won't have any slow downs in the animation. Trying to make them flip on the fly would be ridiculously slow. at least a second between positions. Too bad, because the script is sweet. It could easily handle it. I created the perspective without making any calculations. Just a simple golden ratio progression. I love .6180339 it's better than trig and probably slightly more accurate at creating perspective on 2d than using sin and cos.
