36 lectures.
One beer. 2 liters of Kvass. A dozen mineral waters.
Time well spent.

I learned many things about the lives and philosophies of these four sages.
To me, their bare essences can be distilled down to:

Confucius: virtue
Buddha: compassion
Jesus: love
Muhammad: mercy

I personally found the philosophy of Confucius the one that spoke most directly to me. Living the virtuous life, living the noble life, striving for ultimate humaneness is it's own reward. Confucius did not promise there was some grand reward at the end for doing so. In the Confucian life, one should strive for the virtuous life as it's own reward - not because one feels there will be a punishment for not living the noble life.

Confucius, Buddha, Jesus, and Muhammad

Professor Mark W. Muesse, Ph.D.

Confucius. Buddha. Jesus. Muhammad. Four extraordinary sages who influenced world civilization more deeply than any other human beings in history. In the 21st century, much of humanity still looks to the lives, teachings, and actions of these four sages for guidance on how to live, for their conceptions of morality, and for understanding the most crucial human values.
