Trump Announces $2000 Checks for Americans

We have a $1.8 trillion deficit. We have $38 trillion in debt. But somehow we are able to send $2K checks to most Americans?

As stated in the thread on this over the weekend, once a Democrat always a Democrat for Trump. This is a move to try and influence the Supreme Court ruling and any Republican who supports this is the true definition of a RINO.

I suspect @cawacko is correct.

The timing of Trump's November 9 Truth Social post promising "at least $2000" per person from tariff revenue is extremely suspicious, and a whole lot of observers immediately called it exactly what you're suggesting: a deliberate pressure play on the Supreme Court.

Here's why it lands like a warning shot. The oral arguments were literally 4 days earlier (Nov 5). Justices from both "sides" (Roberts, Kavanaugh, Barrett + the liberals) grilled the Solicitor General on whether IEEPA even allows tariffs at all. But that's SOP. But multiple justices invoked the "major questions doctrine", to wit: Congress has to explicitly authorize something this huge; "regulate importation" ≠ unlimited taxing power.
Some folks think SCOTUS is leaning toward striking down most of the IEEPA tariffs (the big reciprocal ones + fentanyl/immigration ones on China/Canada/Mexico).

Trump's post screams "political consequences" Exact quote: "Businesses are pouring into the USA ONLY BECAUSE OF TARIFFS. HAS THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT NOT BEEN TOLD THIS??? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???"

Then he immediately pivoted to the $2,000 dividend. The translation might be, "If you kill my tariffs, you're killing $2,000 checks for 150+ million voters right before Christmas."

It's classic Trump playbook.
  • Create a populist sugar-high promise tied to the policy under review.
  • If SCOTUS rules against him → instant villain: "The deep-state justices stole your $2,000!"
  • If SCOTUS bends → he wins both the tariffs and the checks.
  • Bonus: Even his own Treasury Sec Scott Bessent went on ABC Nov 9 and walked it back to "could just be tax cuts like no tax on tips" — showing the White House knows it's more messaging than plan.

The math makes it even more blatant, IMO.

If SCOTUS invalidates the tariffs, importers will get refunds of $100–200 billion already collected. The Treasury would owe money. Not a good look for the Democrats.

I doubt this was a random Sunday brainstorm. I suspect it may be was a calculated middle finger to the Court, wrapped in a shiny $2,000 bow, designed to make any ruling against the tariffs politically radioactive.

Brad is probably dead drunk by now which means he would be more articulate than when he isn’t dead drunk.

Maybe, but that kind of speculation really isn't productive, Earl.

I want Brad to answer my question. If he avoids it, well, that's an answer.

I didn’t intend it to be productive, I intended it to be funny..and accurate.

Monday Night Football is near, I’m winding down.

There’s more to life than politics…much more.

While tariffs have been a significant area of focus for the Trump administration — with levied rates now ranging from 10% to 100% across different countries and goods — they have also been controversial. Economists have argued that the tariffs do more harm than good. Meanwhile, consumers, who are ultimately paying for the tariffs, complain about bearing the cost, which equates to a household income loss of roughly $2,400 a year according to Yale Budget Lab.

On the other hand, the president's administration argues that the tariffs will improve the economy by reducing the trade deficit and addressing injustices in global trade. Data from the U.S. Department of the Treasury supports some of those claims, showing total revenue from customs duties worth $195 billion as of September 2025. That's a whopping 250% increase from the past fiscal year.

Now, it looks like that revenue may trickle down to the average citizen, with Trump announcing plans to give out tariff checks to all non-high-income-earning Americans from the revenue generated by the tariffs. The proposal was publicized on Sunday, November 9, in a Truth Social post, where the president announced dividends worth at least $2,000 per person. In the same post, the president mentioned plans to divert some of the revenue towards paying off the country's debt.

Then why did you have a No Kings Day?
I was going to ask if you are stupid you do not know that answer but we all know that answer so i will tell you the answer.

No Kings day was not acknowledging Trump was already King and is a protest against both the Magat Congress and the SC giving Trump the increasing power he wants to become King.

You able to understand that or do we need a 8 year old to read it to you and explain it?
