While tariffs have been a significant area of focus for the Trump administration — with levied rates now ranging from 10% to 100% across different countries and goods — they have also been controversial. Economists have argued that the tariffs do more harm than good. Meanwhile, consumers, who are ultimately paying for the tariffs, complain about bearing the cost, which equates to a household income loss of roughly $2,400 a year according to Yale Budget Lab.

On the other hand, the president's administration argues that the tariffs will improve the economy by reducing the trade deficit and addressing injustices in global trade. Data from the U.S. Department of the Treasury supports some of those claims, showing total revenue from customs duties worth $195 billion as of September 2025. That's a whopping 250% increase from the past fiscal year.

Now, it looks like that revenue may trickle down to the average citizen, with Trump announcing plans to give out tariff checks to all non-high-income-earning Americans from the revenue generated by the tariffs. The proposal was publicized on Sunday, November 9, in a Truth Social post, where the president announced dividends worth at least $2,000 per person. In the same post, the president mentioned plans to divert some of the revenue towards paying off the country's debt.

"A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone,” the president wrote on social media Sunday, in part.

Within hours, however, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent cast doubt on the plan, saying the payout could merely refer to tax savings enshrined by Trump's signature domestic spending measure.

Don't hold yer breath. The money isn't really there.

Post a link proving that there is no funding.

I’ll wait.

I dont think this is ever intended to happen......this is an attempt to bully SCOTUS....to warn them that they will be blamed for people not getting their checks, and as well for the economic chaos that would result from saying that Trumps use of tariffs is illegal.

It's that little thing called the US Constitution.

Article I, Section 9, Clause 7:

No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time.

Trump can't send out checks with money from the treasury just because he wants to. Congress has to approve it for it to be legal.

Actually I don’t think TACO has that power.

As you know, he is not a king.

I don’t believe that even the Dems are dumb enough to oppose a payment of $2K to those who have lost their checks due the Schumer Shutdown to continue paying for free healthcare for illegals.

Oh, you haven't heard? Scott Bessett said that was all a big misunderstanding on the Sunday shows. He said, "what predident trump meant was that you'd all be paying lower taxes".

You need to keep up!

"“I haven’t spoken to the president about this yet, but … the $2,000 dividend could come in lots of forms, in lots of ways, George,” Bessent said.

“It could be just the tax decreases that we are seeing on the president’s agenda,” he continued. “You know, no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on Social Security. Deductibility of auto loans.”

Silly trumptards!
