You cannot change or reform either of the existing parties from within.
 
support might be at an all time high, but I watched over 150 million American idiots discard that 'support' in order to beat a guy they hated........which shows a general lack of intelligence or wisdom on their part
 
so 62% of people polled think there should be a third party, but in any election with a third party they get 5% of the vote......we should believe polls......

the only factual information from those numbers is that 57% of those people are too scared to vote their principles, so they vote out of fear/hate

or lesser of two evils. There's also the peer pressure of from publicly saying "I voted Third party" where the nutjobs on both the Left and the Right go ballistic screaming about "wasted votes" and "fence sitters".

today's gop voters, Trumpers and non Trumpers, ALWAYS vote party line, Trump or not. then two thirds of the them, Trumpers, would vote only Trumpism, the rinos would get behind someone like Pence or Santorum....a HARD split, leaving the Dems with a 20pt edge at least

I look at it as a protest vote which often denies even the winner much more than 50% of the vote, if that much. A win is a win, but having half or more of the country voting against you isn't a "mandate" for running the country. Despite all the whining by the Hillary fans about "3 million votes", 53.9% of the country voted against her.

2000 Bush wins with 47.9% of the vote.

2004 Bush wins with 50.7% of the vote.

2008 Obama wins with 52.9% of the vote.

2012 Obama wins with 51.1% of the vote.

2016 Trump wins with 46.1% of the vote.

2020 Biden wins with 51.3% of the vote.
