Each year on November 11th we take time to thank the Veterans that have protected our freedoms, and defended the Constitution of These United States. Each veteran has sworn to uphold and defend the US Constitution, however the oath of the Enlisted man includes an oath to follow orders of the President and those officers appointed above him. Below I will list the oath of each:
An officer:
I, Damocles (State your full name), having been appointed an officer in the Navy (Military Branch) of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of Ensign (rank of appointment) do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God.
Enlisted:
I, Damocles (state your full name), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.
Each of us swore (or affirmed) to defend the Constitution above all. Some also swore to follow orders.
To each of these I give my thanks and still call you brothers or sisters. Nobody realizes that when you do enter a battle you do not fight for a concept so strange as The Constitution... we join because of such abstracts but we serve, and face our fears, in order to support our brothers and sisters with whom we fight.
