Bentley reveals its 209-mph, 'most powerful' car ever

Ultra-luxury car brand Bentley on Thursday revealed its "fastest and most powerful" vehicle ever: the third-generation Bentley Continental Supersports.

With a 6-liter, [W]12-cylinder, twin-turbocharged engine, the redesigned four-seat vehicle will travel zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 209 mph.

Yet at 1/4 the price, more HP is available from Detroit:
The Challenger is a major salvo in the Horsepower Wars, offering muscle-car metal and seriously awesome engines. The 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 makes 485 hp and 475 lb-ft; choose either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic. The aptly named Hellcat has a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 good for 707 hp and 650 lb-ft, with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic.

An F40 would be awesome. But in the real world where a car has to serve a purpose other than the OMG factor, a Challenger makes a lot more sense. You can actually fit two adults in the back and it has a usable trunk.

I do have two classics that serve little purpose except pleasure driving and conversation, but the cost to maintain and insure is very little compared to something like an F40.

I'm not big on driving much over the speed limit so like a car for it's looks and utility. If I was to get a Challenger I'd get the GT version which they have been promising to start production this month. It's a V6 with AWD, heated leather seats and heated steering wheel.

I like a big car. Even my little '74 Fiat Spider is big for a two seater.
 
I love driving over the speed limit. I inherited a Vette from my dad, '67 L88. I take it out on the interstate once in awhile at night just to have some fun with it.

You've been either lucky or judicious where you stomp the pedal.

Me, I often get the car moving quickly back up to the posted limit at a traffic light. A on-ramp is my drag strip, but again with a max speed at about 10 over to have an authoritative position when merging onto the highway.

The other night I passed a car on a two-lane on ramp. He started several seconds ahead of me and it was very satisfying to gain the upper hand. A mile later he passed me on the road since I had the cruise set at 4-over.

Twisty 2-lanes is where I have the most fun. Signed at 55, most cars can only corner at 30. I have an 05 Mustang V6 manual that I rebuilt with an entire GT suspension. The lighter, shorter engine gives the car a near perfect weight distribution works great on a road like that. Very high fun/$ ratio.

I know where to do it and where not to. I like twisty roads too.
 
The Tesla Model S P100D can do 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, with a top speed of 150 or so. I'll take that, if we are filling wish lists.
 
Actually, the OP was about the overpriced car maker bragging about huge HP while a Detroit car maker bested the mark for over a year at 1/4 the price.
