Absolutely insane!
http://motherjones.com/politics/2010...ng-while-brown "They say everything's bigger in Texas, and that includes absurdity in law enforcement. Most states and towns have public intoxication laws that allow peace officers to pick up the drunk and disorderly. But in the Lone Star State, the nation's broadest PI law lets cops go virtually anywhere and arrest anyone for drunkenness—even if they're quietly nursing a beer in a bar."

Texas is light years behind the rest of the country on civil rights.
they randomly stop poor people on the hopes they can find a joint or pill and then steal their possessions.

I just saw the article on Mother Jones today. I go long periods without checking some of the sites I visit.

yeah, this was huge news in the dallas area. TABC had to backtrack real quick because the state legislators got inundated with rage and protest

No doubt from the gay lobby. They should have done it in a red neck bar.

totally different incident. The gay lobby had issue with the fort worth police raiding a bar. The incident in the OP is a dallas episode that 'raided' numerous bars.

Ok... I get it... underage drinking is illegal and they had every right to see if we were doing our jobs keeping the minors out. The bar I worked out held about 400 people at max capacity (which we were certainly at that night). the night of the year the cops chose...... Halloween. The hardest friggin night of the year to be a bouncer at a college bar. Everyone who was a minor (at least the smart ones) had gobs of makeup (or facepaint)/dyed hair etc..... The cops that night found 12 minors in our bar. They were proud. They busted those minors. Had them cuffed. Were lecturing us on how to do a better job etc.... Then they led the 12 outside. A nice big crowd had gathered.... all of which were chanting one mans name.... over and over again... all you could hear outside was 'Dahmer! .... Dahmer!..... Dahmer!' for you see, this is the same vice squad that thought it was a good idea to let a teenage boy who was bleeding out of his rectum go back with a certain Jeffrey Dahmer just a couple years prior. That boy of course was killed (and likely eaten) by good old Jeffrey. Needless to say, the vice squad was PISSED. Also needless to say... the students didn't care that the cops were pissed. Bottom line... within any profession you can find bone headed and/or corrupt individuals that make their profession look stupid. Mine has Madoff, Jaime Dimon, Blankfein etc.... The cops have situations like the one I mentioned and the one from your article. It is the duty of the public to hold them accountable.... and if possible... taunt them relentlessly with one of their most shameful moments.

Cops in El Paso do it EVERY weekend in bars all over the city. If you are drunk in public place you violate the law. A bar is a public place and the police can enforce the law in bars too. Like I said, it happens every weekend in all kinds of bars.

Fuck, they'd never let me out of jail if that were the law here.
