Default Americans reject Obama European style socialism
If Obama thought he could sell European style socialism to Americans, a February 21, 2010 Rasmussen Report should be a wake up call for him and the Democrats. Only 22% of the nation's voters strongly approve of how he is performing his role as President.

According to Rasmussen, the low approval rating comes as Obama is focusing on health care legislation. The President just doesn't seem to get it, even though only 39% of voters nation wide favor it.

I reject that the final proposal was "European-style socialism." It included many elements that he ran on, which polled favorably at the time, and was watered down enough that many on the left hated it, and thought Obama was capitulating way too much.

I saw an interesting poll the other day - I think it was WSJ - where they polled the favorability of Obama's plan, and it was down in the low 40's. But when they asked about the main elements of the plan separately, without mentioning that they were part of the plan, they polled near 50.

The entire bill is practically just one Republican idea after the other. The only thing left-wing in it is the public option, which was stripped out in the senate version. It's pretty clear that this opposition is mainly coming from an obstruct-everything-Obama-proposes attitude rather than any attempt to propose alternative "reform". If Obama proposes Republican ideas and the Republicans vote against their own proposals, what else is to be said?
