    Default Ron Paul and racism....

These past couple months, on these boards, Ron Paul was accused of racism from past newsletters sent out in his name, and also because some of his supporters were racist groups. However, my main concern is that, even though he has tryed to swat these allegations off of him with an unacceptable answer to those accusing him of racism, he may be the only candidate that is going to take a stand on the things that hurt minorities the most.

Would we agree that the drug war disproportionatly effects minorities? If we can agree on that, then who in the list of candidates from either side is fighting to end this ugly policy?

Can we agree that, even though the rate that minorities are signing up has dropped, they still have a higher rate of those signing up to join our military? Only a few candidates from either side want to bring them home. It seems the other candidates view them as expendable.

What are some other things we can think of, as far as policy goes, that effect minorities, and where does Ron Paul stand on those issues?

I know AA is where he is not well recieved, but what Republican candidate is?

He was very well recieved at the Minority Debate:

However, my support for the guy is dwindling but he still has the lead. I took that poll yesterday and he only got 15 points. Gravel was right behind with 14 and Kucinich at 13. Though I consider myself Libertarian, I think a more free approach to everything is just not going to work. Though, I defintly do not want the see more government expansion, and feel there are plenty of areas where we are wasting time, money, and lives on.

I can't speak for people of color, and I'm sure they're not a monolithic voting bloc.

But, I suspect they're not as obsessed about AA as some might think. Sure, its an issue of interest. But, I think most people of color are concerned about the same things most other working americans are: health care, a living wage, child day care, access and public assistance for higher education and vocational training, fairness in housing and employment.

I haven't seen too many minority groups out marching for a living wage. But I have seen large group of minorities (blacks) out protesting the drug laws and the effect it has on the community, especially black youths.

I had (black) classmates sellilng drugs when I was in high school. I didn't agree with it but I definitely understood. Often at that age it can be hard to see the big picture and all that is in front of you. So kids don't always do the right thing (that's kids of all races). But many black youth who sell drugs end up in jail and with a police record which often haunts them for the rest of their life.

Hence it is a very important issue, especially with inner-city children.

I'm not asking this in a negative way but out of curiousity. It seems Ron Paul and Dennis K. have (for the most part) very different political beliefs (at least domestically). I just find it interesting you like those two. (again not trying to say this in a negative or deragatory manner)

Intolerant of handicaps I see. People who are sunlight allergic with blood fetishes are people too!
Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

Believe nothing on the faith of traditions, even though they have been held in honor for many generations and in diverse places. Do not believe a thing because many people speak of it. Do not believe on the faith of the sages of the past. Do not believe what you yourself have imagined, persuading yourself that a God inspires you. Believe nothing on the sole authority of your masters and priests. After examination, believe what you yourself have tested and found to be reasonable, and conform your conduct thereto.
