Guns are just tools.

Law enforcement officials have located the .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun they believe was used in the shooting rampage that left seven people dead and three injured at a small Christian vocational school, the Oakland Police Department said.

The gun’s serial number matches that of a weapon purchased by One L. Goh earlier this year in California, police said in a statement.

Goh has been charged with seven counts of murder with special circumstances and three counts of attempted murder in the attack Monday at Oikos University.

The gun was found Friday at 5:30 a.m. in a waterway less than a mile from the East Oakland school where Goh allegedly killed six students and a secretary while searching for an administrator who was not on campus.

After he was taken into police custody Monday, the 43-year-old former nursing student was cooperative to a point, police said, describing the general area where he had thrown the weapon.

Police spent much of Tuesday unsuccessfully searching a different location, using boats and a sonar-equipped robot to comb the bottom of the Oakland Estuary.

The weapon still needs to be tested to confirm if it was the gun used in the murders.
