The stone that the builder refused
Will always be the head corner stone
Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.
- -- Aristotle
Believe nothing on the faith of traditions, even though they have been held in honor for many generations and in diverse places. Do not believe a thing because many people speak of it. Do not believe on the faith of the sages of the past. Do not believe what you yourself have imagined, persuading yourself that a God inspires you. Believe nothing on the sole authority of your masters and priests. After examination, believe what you yourself have tested and found to be reasonable, and conform your conduct thereto.

Okay; given that it's still spewing, do you know what the rough % of oil, as compared to the total spewing out every day, the "best equipment" would be able to clean?
In other words, if the best cleanup efforts & equipment were in place from day 1, would it have prevented the fishing area topspin referred to from being slicked?
I do know that zero is a lower number, and that less oil able to reach the shores and kill wildlife is better than the 'ass kicking' committee can do, ever. The hand-wringing, "It wouldn't have helped" is worthless. When the crap is hitting the fan, you either put a cork in the hole spewing the crap, or you try to mitigate the spread by removing the fan or catch the crap before it hits the walls in something... it isn't the time for "finding an ass" to kick until the crap has stopped flying.

I'll post this again, obviously you missed it the first time...
In the early 90s, the Saudi's had a spill nearly as bad as this, and they dispersed super-tankers immediately, where the gushing oil was sucked up as it came out, limiting the damage it did to their coasts. Why aren't we doing that? Why haven't the Saudi's been consulted on this? Why can't the Dutch even get their phone calls returned?
I'll ask you again, WHY ARE WE NOT DOING THIS????????????
No one expects Obama to go down to the Gulf and wave his hand to make the oil stop flowing! God knows, there were certainly some liberals out there who THOUGHT he had such powers, but most of us rational sane people understand he can't do that. But the talking and meeting with people is not doing a thing to address this crisis. We need some REAL ACTION, we need to see an effort being made to mitigate the problem, to deal with what is already in the gulf! We simply can't wait around until August, when the oil flow is stopped, then start thinking about the clean up! We need to be doing SOMETHING NOW!
Good lord - you have no clue. You're running around calling this a Keystone cops routine, and screaming about all of the things that should have been done early on to really "make a difference," and for all you know, all of the best equipment 2 weeks earlier (or whenever) could have had the most negligible effect imaginable.
And that "finding an ass to kick" thing is ALL Obama was doing - good call, Damo. That characterization isn't too partisan.
This has been a really telling week on the board. The righties here are all hat, baby....

I've run out of apologist stances and I know he is right, but I'll not say anything directly bad about the Messiah. Instead I'll point out something somebody else said, pretend that means I said it, then continue trying to BS my way through a total apologetic stance.
Dude, the Bush worshipers had nothing on you.

The translations on this board are generally horrific.
The Bush worshippers have plenty on me; don't you go worry yourself on that one, Beckocles.

Probably so, because that is exactly what the Saudi's did in '94. They put enough super-tankers in the Persian Gulf, to suck up as much oil as the well was putting out, until they could get the relief well drilled and stop the flow! This isn't rocket science, it's a simple pragmatic approach, but this administration remains paralyzed and feckless in dealing with the crisis! The EPA is falling all over itself to make sure every EPA regulation is followed to the tee, and nothing is allowed to take place that they haven't approved. They want BP to stop using Corexit, a chemical dispersant, because Corexit is "mildly" toxic to some larvae and young aquatic life! ....Although, it is far LESS toxic than RAW FUCKING CRUDE OIL! The EPA will not allow BP to use filtration methods, because the filtered water doesn't meet the PPM requirements... even though the filtered water would be a dramatic improvement over RAW FUCKING CRUDE OIL! It's absolute governmental INSANITY in action!
