I was bullied till about 14 when I started boxing, from then on and I taught it to my kids. Never start a fight, always step in for the kid being bullied. Martial arts are great for young kids confidence.

I was bullied in elementary school and a little at the beginning of junior high.

Then I grew. Best thing for stopping bullies is to be large. lol

word on that, my family has the genes of a michael J fox clone so we had to fend off the bullies. If you not large you better learn some self defense.

Or make friends with some large guys. My oldest son is as gentle as a lamb. But by the time he was 15 he was over 6 feet tall and solidly built. His friends were mostly the nerds who got picked on. He never had to actually fight anyone, but he did bluff a bully or two down.

But I agree that martial arts is an excellent way to prevent bullying. As long as they do not use what they know to become a bully.

Some do use it that way, but they drill in your head over and over to be more of a protector that honor is what's important.
My kids never wrestled over 141 in college, walking the street about 155 to 160. So bullying never stopped following them. A baseball player who stole my son's radio from his car came over to beat him up after words were exchanged. Kid was about 5 10 180. I was in Houston, my wife was in the house and frazzled. My son beat him so bad, the kid was a bloody mess. High School kids can't reason too good. My son was a black belt and a 3x state wrestling champ and kids still had to challange him.

Neither bullied or was a bully. By 7th grade the largest in my classes. By 10th grade was able to bench over 250 lb. Never bothered but was always seriously religious so never bothered anyone. Took up for a few who were bothered though.

When I turned 18, I hit a late growth spurt and went from 5' tall to 6' tall in 1 year.
My weight jumped from around 130 to 185, with hardly any fat.

You're right. Bullies don't seem to like to take on even odds.
