After researching the names, I found three that reflect poorly on Obama: Geithner, Kirk, Sebelius. Malkin is reaching to find a smaller degree of separation than actually exists among Obama and most of those named. Many of them had issues dating back decades yet she's trying to connect them, however tenuously, with Obama. I call BS.
See comments below for the rest.
Geithner: All true. Paid up back taxes.
Kirk: Kirk's errors involved honoraria from speeches, on which he should have paid taxes; the cost of sports games, for which he deducted too much; and improper treatment of accounting fees on his income taxes. Kirk has agreed to file amended returns.
Sebelius: All true. Paid up back taxes.
Daschle: Offered the position of Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services after the 2008 election. He was President Barack Obama's nominee to serve as the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) in Obama's Cabinet,[2] but withdrew his name on February 3, 2009 amid a growing controversy over his failure to accurately report and pay income taxes.[3] Hasn't held public office in almost 5 years. How does this reflect on Obama?
Dodd: Controversies started in 2003 under bush administration. On August 7, 2009, Senator Dodd was cleared of any wrongdoing by the Senate Ethics Committee.[37] According to the Boston Globe, "The Select Committee on Ethics told the Connecticut Democrat in a letter that after a yearlong investigation, it found "no substantial credible evidence" that his Countrywide mortgages in 2003, refinancing his home in Connecticut and another residence in Washington, broke Senate gift rules." How does this reflect on Obama?
Emanuel: Jan Baran, a Washington ethics lawyer who advises mostly Republicans, said Emanuel's use of the room from DeLauro and Greenberg does not violate House ethics rules since members clearly are allowed to give each other gifts of lodging.Joseph Dodge, a professor at Florida State University College of Law, argued that the room is not subject to tax either as a gift or as income. It's not a gift because it doesn't effectively cost DeLauro and Greenberg anything, Dodge said.
Nor would it be taxable as income to Emanuel because of the couple's motive in making the room available, "which would be friendship or generosity," Dodge said. Where's the crime?
Franken: Tax issues began in 2002. Franken added that he will seek retroactive credit from the states where he paid income tax that should have been paid in these 17 states. How does this reflect on Obama?
Killefer: ... Failed to pay employment taxes on household help for a year and a half, the Associated Press reported. In 2005, the AP said, the District of Columbia filed a $946.69 tax lien on her home for failure to pay the unemployment compensation tax. The error was resolved five months later. Nominated to position but withdrew. Not holding public office. How does this reflect on Obama?
Rangel: 1)Caribbean junket still under investigation by house ethics committee. 2)Rangel's wheelings and dealings began in the '70's, 30 yrs ago. Investigations started by ethics committee in 7/2008 during bush administration, various outcomes. Why does all of this reflect on Obama and not on bush or 4 other presidents?
Richardson: Grand jury investigation began in 2008, Richardson was cleared. "New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and former high-ranking members of his administration won't be criminally charged in a yearlong federal investigation into pay-to-play allegations involving one of the Democratic governor's large political donors, someone familiar with the case said." Never became a member of the administration so how does this reflect on Obama?
Solis: Solis and husband Sam Sayyad file taxes separately. Her tax returns were investigated and found to be in order Why does his lien make her a crook? How does Sayyad's tax evasion reflect on Obama?
