In America, people have more opportunity than any other country on the planet, I personally know of two immigrants who came here with nothing but the clothes on their back and the will to succeed, and they did. Both are successful small business owners, doing very well for themselves and their families. If they can make it, anyone can, it's a matter of how much determination you have.

In the inner city, gangs are a cultural thing for the poor, they are introduced at an early age, and they just grow up understanding they will one day be members of the gang, like their brothers before them.
