Default Troopergate report: Palin abused power

An investigation has concluded that Gov. Sarah Palin abused her power, according to a report just now unanimously released by the legislative council.
The report by investigator Steve Branchflower found that Palin violated the state's executive branch ethics act, which says that "each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust."

Branchflower was investigating whether Palin abused her power by pushing for the firing of state trooper Mike Wooten, who once was married to the governor's sister.

This was a bi-partisan legislative report with 6 dems and 6 repubs.

In the report, they found that she broke state law.

She could actually end up facing impeachment in Alaska. This finding is just the tip of the iceburg.

I consider her, and her creepy husband who is pulling plenty of the strings, to be the most dangerous persons I have seen cross the national stage. This is good news. She needs to be put down.

The report actually says she violated no laws though so maybe they'll focus on that.

Branchflower says Monegan's refusal to fire Wooten was not the sole reason for his dismissal, but that it was a "contributing factor." Still, he said, Palin's firing of Monegan was "a proper and lawful exercise" of the governor's authority.
This sounds a little convoluted to me. How can an "abuse of power" also be "a proper and lawful exercise?"

The AP reported that they said she broke state law. Not to say the AP cant' be wrong. I will have to wait and read the report for myself.

The report by investigator Steve Branchflower found that Palin violated the state's executive branch ethics act,

But you are right now breaking of the law. So that makes it ok and that is what the McCain campaign will focus on.

They are saying the physical steps taken to fire him ie. the paperwork etc. was completed correctly but the reason was unethical.

Pretty much. They're basically saying that the governor violated state ethics laws in firing the guy but that the governor is permitted to fire people in violation of state ethics laws. It's fairly convoluted and I think it's a crock of shit, personally.
