  1. Sword of Islam and Legacy of Rome are pretty good. These newer DLC's also seem decent, although indeed perhaps they should've been playable before hand, and the DLC should've just fleshed them out. It also has a shitload of facepacks and music DLC, though, which is utter filler money grabbing shit which I can in no way apologize for.
  2. If it were in the game to begin with, it would've sucked.
  3. It's not a very profitable venture as it is. I'm not going to criticize them for trying to stay afloat, especially when on top of everything we get religions that are actually specialized rather than the same generic, non-culturally specific flavor to everything, as in EUIII.
  4. Well, Paradox has released a new DLC for CKII, The Republic, that allows you to play as most of the Merchant Republics in the game. They're also going to release another one, "The Old Gods", that allows you to play as a Pagan or a Zoroastrian. This is so awesome.
  5. What I really need to do is get on Skype and talk to some people who speak some actual Chinese.
  6. Do you want me to send you my Anki deck with lines from the Iliad on one side and translations on the other? That's my primary tool for learning ancient Greek. So far, I can pretty much just read the first 50 or so lines of the Iliad, but my Ancient Greek is still weak. It's stronger than my Chinese, though, which is pretty much limited to a few set phrases.
  7. This blog is what I use for inspiration:

ude knows 8 different languages, learned them all by simply going out and talking to people. He has a good attitude, and reminds me that learning a language really is not that hard, you just have to put a little effort into it.
  8. The other day, I heard someone complaining about how difficult English was. Of course, I responded "No, you know what's the most difficult language? Ancient Greek." Then I explained that every word could have hundreds of possible forms. He looked at me like it was the craziest thing in the world, to know a bit of Ancient Greek. I think it took him a while to recover, but when he did he said "Oh, so it's like Chinese?"

Chinese is pretty much the opposite of what Ancient Greek is, it's an analytical language with no conjugation or declensions, many words are one syllable, almost all that aren't are two syllable (really one word and another word next to it to help distinguish meaning from homonyms). I feel kind of sorry for him though, who would expect that they're sitting next to the one guy who knows a little bit of both Ancient Greek and Chinese?
  9. I don't pay attention to ILA or any responses to him.

I suggest that rule in the Announcements section be amended sooner rather than later.
  10. OIC. An ex post facto decision, based no doubt on everyone's friendship with that piece of shit Voltaire.

    You mods should be ashamed.

One of my favorite stories

by Chapel The Evergreen on 02-20-2010 at 10:39 PM
Everyone who knows me loves it when I tell this story, so I felt I should share it with you all.

I'll start off by saying that I'm not really a good person. My buddy Mike and I invented a game to play while we were in the Marine Corps. We would find lonely desperate women online (craigslist, onlinebootycall, plentyoffish, Etc) and convince them that we were interested in whatever they were looking for. Love, sex, friendship, you name it.

Of course we were both married at

Mindless Ramblings

by Chapel The Evergreen on 01-22-2010 at 03:47 PM
This first paragraph is the only part that has an actual theme. I'm bored, love to write, and feel like you all should glimpse into the awesomeness of my life.

I really think I'm as awesome as I say I am. Seriously, I'm the greatest human being ever. It's not that I'm better or more deserving than anyone, they're just not as good as me.

I wish I could play an instrument. The only musical talent I have is good ears and if I knew the scale, I could write some kickass metal.
