White Women’s Rage: 5 Thoughts on Why Jan Brewer Should Keep Her Fingers to Herself

Here are some images from the 20th century of white privilege in action, they must feel so blessed to have not been born black.

Are you making light of it? In the "Gangs of New YorK", the Irish were seen as beneath the newly freed black ex-slaves. And as the disparity between the rich and the poor grew, the separation between white and black grew, as well. Jim Crow became the de facto, "law of the land". During that time is when "whites" began exerting their white skin as a "birthright" and a sense of entitlement ensued. I have no idea what you're trying to say by dredging up pictures of white children as "child laborers", when it's a non sequitur. Are being "cute"? Or "stirring the pot", as you're apt to do? Your hope at salvation just flew out the window. Alas.

I could turn a coin on its' head and remind you of what the English did to the Irish. But I imagine that wouldn't set well.

Obviously you don't find it extraordinary that there was still child labour in the US in the '20s and '30s. My more substantial point is that slave labour was not exclusively a black phenomenon.

It's evident that there is no love lost between the two of them.

Perhaps, but could you just imagine what our resident neocon/teabagger/libertarian magpies would be squawking if it was Maxine Waters wagging her finger in the face of the Shrub in a public photo op?!?!

It would be interesting to get Theron's response to EXACTLY what Davis was pointing out in a Q&A.
I was really taken back when I read the women commenting on the original linked article here. They seemed to agree with what you say. I think Davis is a beautiful woman, a conventionally beautiful woman and this did not even occur to me. When I read them they seemed to think it was condescending and that white women often condescend to black women in this manner. Maybe it is because I live in NY where interracial relationships are very common, but I have black friends who are knock out and I never thought anything like this. Men of all kinds hit on them all of the time. But just because I don't think that, doesn't mean that a lot of other white women don't. THat's what I meant when I said earlier in the thread, you know, keep an open mind, go read what others who are walking in shoes you'll never walk in have to say.

And even if everyone were to agree that Davis is conventionally beautiful, that would not change how Hollywood portrays black women. Hollywood sucks in many ways. I hate when they pat themselves on the back for being so liberal when they are often the biggest purveyors of sexist and racist tropes.

My opinion was not addressing Theron in context of white perception of what "hot" is, but rather just a straight out and out comparison.....Davis is NOT considered in the same hot zone as Theron....Halley Berry is, which is why Davis stated up front that if Halley Berry is having problems keeping gainfully employed in, thinks of what she (Davis) who DOES NOT equate to Berry's attractiveness (her words, not mine) is going through.

What Theron did is what women of every race, creed and color due when they are trying to be "nice" to a friend they KNOW could not compete with them for the attention of the majority of men in the room. A matter of history and fact of which I was NOT trying to pin a racial overtone to.

Yes, you're right they would be going apeshit about it. But that is the nature of US politics, I can't help feeling though that she must be laughing all the way to the polling booth about it. However, as Maggie Thatcher said about the IRA in Northern Ireland, you shouldn't give them the oxygen of publicity. One further thing though, that man who shouted liar at Obama should have been banned from Capitol Hill, for a period of time, for his transgression.

No they did not. Now you just answer this question: Does the fact they didn't disrespect Bush in THAT manner, mean they didn't disrespect Bush at all?

The POINT I and others are making is that NO Democrat Congressman or Senator gave a public display of disrespect to the Shrub ( note I call him that, as did radio jocks, but NOT Dem politicos) on the level that they have and are doing to Obama. Period. YOU just confirmed that, so don't try weaseling/waffeling on that acknowledgement.

Look, I, unlike Freedom, and DY, will not waste my time and efforts, going back through tons of posts, just to prove you a liar and a scoundrel. Trust that the evidence is there. It's just not important.

So you admit that you lied and by the way, it only took about 1 hour to prove it. :)

I think he more like HAL 9000 at times.

would you consider a chorus of boos during the state of the union a public display of respect?

Quit the neocon bullhorn, Yurt, and just answer these questions: Did a Democratic Congressman EVER yell "LIE" during a Presidential address by the Shrub? Did a Democratic Senator or Congressman publically state that the Shrub was unqualified or "over his head"...DESPITE his record as a failed businessman and figure head governor?

no.

now, answer this question: did a republican ever boo obama during a SOTU?

yes, a democratic senator said bush is not qualified and is inexperienced (same as "over his head")

This is just more of the same. Republicans have said that this president is NOT an american citizen. That he is a Moslem, That he did not put his hand on his heart during the pledge of allegiance, that he was not born where he said he was born. I voted for him in 2008, and won't be making that mistake again, but to pretend that the Republican party has respected the man for the office he holds would be a joke. The party, through their surrogates have done everything they can to discredit him. He won after 8 years of Bush II and that REALLY pisses Republican's off. Not agreeing with him on policy issues is one thing, but continually trying to attack because you think he is a foreign born moslem sympathizer who hates the US is just plain stupid and shows how low some republican's are willing to stoop to win.

I was referring to the discussion taking place among self-identified black women, underneath the original link. Some of the things I read there indicated that some black women believe that the standard of "hotness" in our culture is a white standard, which is often unconscious. And that because Berry is half-white, and her skin is not that dark, she fits a white standard of beauty more than the darker-skinned Davis. There was even a lot of discussion of how some black men have this view. But their bottom line was that a dark-skinned woman like Davis was not going to be offered roles as a sex interest.

Now, I'm not a black woman so I really can't say. But it was a very interesting discussion, and taichi, I really don't think it's a discussion your or I are going to make the finalized decision on.

What an utterly stupid thing to say. Why wouldn't Davis be offered a leading role as a "sex interest"? Do dark-skinned people not have sex? Or is it that you prefer to watch lighter-skinned folk in sexier roles? Viola Davis won't have to worry about not finding "meaty roles".....Meryl Streep will see to that, "personally". And you have the nerve to call me out on sexism...but can't see it in yourself. Isn't that the line you're using, these days?

one reason your a dumbass is that you dropped out! your burn is coming sista

You have the audacity to cite my dropping out of college (after 2 years) as being proof of my lack of intelligence, when your dumbass can't distinguish between "you're" and "your"??????????????????????????

Sista? You don't know me. Don't pretend that you do. I don't camp. Especially with white racists and bigots, pretending to be "hip". If it was down to a "slugfest", between the two of us, on a mental tip, you wouldn't last the first round. I used to think you were alright, but some time ago, you lost your friggin' mind and attacked me, for no good reason. Since then, I've ignored you...as you seldom have anything of relevance or importance to share. Evidently my two years of college is quite enough to compete and win against those here with 4 years and several degrees. A college degree ain't nothing but a slip of paper, saying you went...it is not an accurate accounting of what you know. I regularly "run rings" around the idiots here. You ain't nothing but another one. Fuck you.
