How does the case fatality rate (CFR) of COVID-19 compare to other virus outbreaks and diseases?

Once again, we should stress what we discussed above. One has to understand the measurement challenges and the definitions to interpret estimates of the CFR for COVID-19, particularly those relating to an ongoing outbreak.

As comparisons, the table shows the case fatality rates for other disease outbreaks. The CFR of SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV were high: 10% and 34%, respectively.48

The US seasonal flu has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1% – much lower than the current CFR for COVID-19.

With all that is being done, ruining our jobs and economy, it better be. SOONER rather than later so we can get back to the boom times.
I'm watching that graph closely as an indicator for when to get back in the market. It's always a guess but I figure that's as good an indicator there is since the only reason the market tanked was due to COVID19. :dunno:
PM me if you want to see where I got it from.

You may have waited too long to get back in. ;)

Daaayum! You're fortunate to be alive. That was quite an ordeal. I agree there's nothing wrong with a bit of extra fluff. I was just
focusing on the bigger picture of excessive sugar-related diseases which all compromise the immune system.

You're right -- we have a pandemic of that as well as this COVID.

Apparently I was close to passing by the time I got to the hospital. The hospital priest came in to give me last rites. Fooled him. lol

Not going to happen because beaches are being shut down and there will be no Mardi Gras. Will that make you sad?

Sad. I know you are isolated and have some mental handicaps but Mardi Gras has passed. It was 25FEB2020. You missed it. ;)

Do you know what today is, TD? The date? The year?

Does the word probably mean anything to you, Cunt? There is massive amounts of evidence that the Norsemen were here.
Go fuck yourself.

Thanks for your post since it proves three things: You don't know shit about Norse history, you're too spineless to admit error and that your intelligence is so low your only response is a string of vulgarities and insults. Very sad. I'm guessing you're middle-aged or older with very little to live for after a lifetime of mediocre jobs.

Hello Dutch Uncle,
Yet.
True. Some systems will overload and the bodies will stack up. It's unfortunate. It will also be very interesting to see what our government does over the next few years in reaction to this momentous event. You know, like how it changed after 9/11.

Running low on substitute adjectives for ‘creep’ and ‘crawl’ so I went with the sarcastic angle in the OP title.

Related news: at least one doctor thinks the CHINA virus has already been in WV since there have been a cluster of people with flu like symptoms that tested negative for seasonal flu virus over the past 6-8 weeks. Could easily be true and if it is, the virulence of the virus is unremarkable with respect to the vast majority of people.

Also, if true, the actual number of Corona cases is a lot higher than the number of confirmed cases, nationally. This is probably what prompted the expert in OH to speculate that OH could have 100k cases of the virus.

But if all of this is true, look at the number in the OP title—and think.

Are you taking less precautions today than you did for other types of flu or are you being more careful than in the past (like this winter)?

I am not sure of the point of comparing this to other outbreaks. I haven't heard anybody claim it is worse than Swine flu or H1N1 and the media has carried fewer stories of cononavirus (14 million) than Swine (56 million) or H1N1 (30 million). Conservative posters keep citing figures telling us there are fewer cases and deaths than previous strains, but I haven't heard anybody argue otherwise. Whether it will increase rapidly is something nobody knows.

Why do you keep talking about previous outbreaks? It seem you are arguing with a strawman.

Oh, probably more government regulation to protect the nation for another thing that threatens us. IOW, more socialism in our hybrid capitalist/socialist economy. And another reason to tax the rich more to pay for it.

Keen insight. How is it that you are able to penetrate his psyche and report on all his pathologies in such great and specific detail? It was before me yet I could not see that he is spineless, stupid, old, hopeless all because he toiled in menial work his entire life.

Hello Flash,

Why do you keep talking about previous outbreaks?

Because it's been all over the news that the president had advance warning of this in January, and instead of taking prompt decisive action, he sat on it, mocked it, denied it and claimed it was a Democratic hoax as late as Feb 26th. So now the damage-control has to belittle the Coronavirus and try to pretend it's not as bad as it really is.

Do you think those people are still going out in public and disregarding any precautions if they don't see it as a risk?

It seems somewhat irrelevant whether it is worse or less risky than any previous outbreaks other than as a diversion to the health and economic problems in an election year even if there was nothing more President Trump could have done.
