Cops working the Jussie Smollett case allegedly had seriously loose lips, and now the police force is launching an internal investigation.

Chicago PD tells us its Chief of Detectives opened the investigation out of concerns the force was leaking like a sieve. CPD adds there's been a ton of "inaccurate" info in the media, and they want to know who's putting it out there.

A police spokesman tells TMZ ... "When there are allegations of information being leaked, an internal investigation has been opened and we are also looking at our vulnerabilities."Smollett's attorney, Mark Geragos, blasted the police during a CNN appearance saying the leaks were a thinly veiled attempt to skewer the actor.

Worth noting ... the Smollett case also caused upheaval at the hospital where he was treated after the alleged attack. Dozens of staffers were reportedly fired for looking at his records without authorization.

Is this the reason for the silence?

I told yall to stop listening to racist white men and their media.

Poor Jussie....no more career...I don't think when he planned the attack he thought it would go so wrong....shame on you, Juss......
Keep us posted though on your latest "findings", will you?

Sixteen counts of felony disorderly conduct. In addition to the first class 4 felony charge of disorderly conduct...

WOW No comment eh?

I was working all day. just saw this. I was hoping they would do something about that. I get angry every time I hear about leaks from our government agencies, police, lawyers, etc.. I agree with you on this. I can't see how it would hard to trace the officers who had access to the information in the case. Should be pretty easy to find the perpetrating police officers. But we always hear the police make excuses that have so much invested in these officers...fucking bullshit. The blue wall will probably protect the leakers, but hopefully a push for FOI on the data and pertinent officers and their phone records and such. Arguably, it is a silly case to worry this much about, but at the same time, police leaking any information about ongoing cases is pretty fucking dangerous and a clear violation of the trust we place in the sub-average-IQ police force. These folks are the Dunning-Krugers of America. The guys who think everyone else is stupid and think they are way smarter than they actually are. And the courts made sure they could discriminate against above average IQ applicants to the police force. The courts ensured this is what we'd get.

It's time to replace all police forces. The national guard could be used during the transition to a new standard of police. First we train a new force and then we remove the current police from power and use the guard if needed. It's time to start over!

Geeze. Another reason why being a celebrity would really suck.
I wonder if this will cause the judge to dismiss charges?

What Jussie did doesn't excuse the leaking cops. No matter what their motivations. I could see someone who wanted to inflame tensions leaking it. But at the same time, it would have been even more devastating to allow the lie to keep being told and then the egg on the faces of everyone defending Jussie would have been hilarious. Someone might have leaked it to cool to press from running with fake news. Either way, I still think it's wrong to leak confidential police information.

Chicago PD has long been corrupt. No excuse for leaking.

I saw Smollett was indicted today.

I'm a little confused here? He perpetrated this, and was as guilty as trump when it comes to stirring a racial divide. There's no link to the story, so I don't know what was leaked, and how it changes anything Smollet did?

Personally, I think the theory that it was all about selling the anti-lynching campaign makes the most sense in the crazy story. Jussie is good friends with Kamala and Corey and they used the incident to push tweets and gain media coverage to promote their legislation. If someone could explain how being a victim of a hate crime would increase your pay from your employer, I might be able to understand the motivation narrative.

Here's a link.

I think the gist of the OP was the CPD investigating the loose-lips in the dept. I don't know if that will jeopardize the case against Smollett or not, but probably not. As for the hospital personnel, that's a real problem. I recall a couple decades ago that several nurses and other hospital personnel were fired for leaking to the media that Joe Torre had been treated at a St. Louis hospital for prostate cancer. There were rumors that he was going to sue but I don't know if he did or not.

Yeah, that never made any sense.
