For the most part, they are used on bombing missions, where internal fuel tanks would not allow them to reach their target. That's a pretty broad brush you're using. I have studied end time prophecy for over 20 years. Revelation mentions events of such a cataclysmic nature that it says that no life would be spared if God did not cut things short. read about the seven bowls of judgement. These are Gods supernatural wrath unleashed on the world. They are not symbolic. They are divine punishment on the entire world. Once again, these events have not happened yet. So no tribulation.
